Title: SIMILAR TRIANGLES
Discussion :
Similar triangles are two triangles that have all the same angles.
For example:
180-x-y
y
x
180-x-y
x
If two angles are the same the third has to be the same because all three angle add up to 180.
If all angles are the same, we are dealing with Similar triangle.
We can use information to figure out some of the side. Even though they do not have the same
side the ratio of corresponding side is the same.
7 6 y
x
For example
2
x 2
5 =
7 5
14
x=
They are corresponding 5
sides
The side with red lines are corresponding sides, similarly the orange line.
The ratio between corresponding sides is always the same.
Title: IDENTIFY THE SIMILAR TRIANGLE AND FIND EACH MEASURE
Discussion : S

What we need to do take away the triangle, separate the triangles so can see them as their own
identity. We are going to drag them separately
S

14 x+2
T x+2
R 6
U T
They are similar, if they similar then, that means that their side length are proportional to each other.

After having a proportion, we can
solve it by cross multiplication
6(4x-1)=14(x+2)
24x-6=14x-24
10x-34

x= 5 6
Title: SIMILAR POLYGONS
Discussion :
6
Similar :
Same shape, different sizes
All ‘s
all sides proportional
SCALE FACTOR
-between two polygons is the proportion of the side lengths
Let say;
10
5
3
6 3
3 3
4
3
8
To find the scale factor take any two corresponding legs
3
4:8
The scale factor 1
1:2 or 2
The scale factor doesn’t matter which pair corresponding sides it will be the same.
The scale factor describe the relationship of small to big corresponding side to the
other corresponding side .
