Question 1 (20 pts) Fig. 1 shows three forces of magnitude F1 = 6 N, F2 = 2


N, and F3 = 4 N act on a package of 5 kg sliding across a frictionless floor

a/ For the 1 m displacement, what is the net work done on the package by all
forces on the package? Explain the physical meaning of your results.

b/ What is its speed at the end of the displacement?

c/ What is the average power due to the forces during the displacement?

Question 2 (20 pts) A ball of mass m = 100 g is thrown from the top of a building with an initial velocity
of v0 = 10 m/s at an angle of  = 30° above the horizontal. Using energy methods, do:
a/ Determine the kinetic energy of the ball when it reaches the maximum height.

b/ Compute its speed when it is 5 m below the initial position.

c/ If the initial angle  increases, how is the ball’s speed when it is 5 m below the initial position? More
than, less than or the same? Why?

Question 3 (3 pts) Fig. 2 shows a 0.2 kg ball with a speed of vi = 8 m/s strikes a wall at an r

Question 4 (20 pts) Block A of 5 kg with a speed of 3 m/s collides with block B of 10 kg that has a speed
of 2 m/s in the same direction. After the collision, block B travels in the original direction with a speed of
2.5 m/s.

a/ What is the velocity of block A immediately after the collision?

b/ How much does the total kinetic energy of the system of two blocks change due to the collision?

c/ Suppose that block B ends up with a speed of 4 m/s, what is the change in the total kinetic energy?
Explain the physical meaning of your result.

Question 5 (20 pts) In Fig. 3, a solid sphere of radius R = 5 cm and
