A. INTRODUCTION
1. Description
a. Short description
This module is designed to help the students learn and understand about procedure
text specifically in term of recipes. This module presents the materials to enhance the
students knowledge about what recipe is, its structure and language features, as well
as how to create a good and effective recipe.
b. Relevance
This section provides you with social function, generic structure, language features,
and content comprehension of given texts on Procedure Text Recipe, and also
information related to this learning materials, such as examples of the text, links of
sources, assignments, conclusion, and ended with a formative test.
c. Learning guide
There are three essential activities in order to achieve the learning outcomes in this
module namely; pre activity, main activity, and post activity. This module is
presented for junior high school students.
Pre-activity: building background knowledge about procedure text is an essential part
before jumping to the main activity. Building background knowledge greatly
influences comprehension.
Main Activity:

Some activities encourage understanding and comprehension the materials about
procedure text.
➢ Reading and analysing the language structures and generic structures of procedure
text.
➢ Writing a procedure text based on the students interest .
Post Activity: In this session, checking students understanding, giving the feedback
and randomly presenting the procedure text in front of the class.

Learning Outcome
a. Attitude
To uphold and apply religious values, moral values, ethical values, personal and
social values (honesty, discipline, accountability, independence), care and respect for
differences and diversity, tolerance, peace, collaboration, and nationalism.
b. Knowledge
To analyse the social functions, text structures, and lexico grammatical features of
procedure text in regard to the contexts of situation.
c. Skill
After learning this module students are able to :
➢ analyse the generic structures and language features of procedure text.
➢ apply the knowledge and understanding of procedure text.
➢ writing the procedure text properly based on generic structures and language
features.

Definition of recipe:
It is a list of ingredients and a set of instructions that tell you how to cook something.
Generic Structure of prosedur text recipe
Goal/aim : It contains the purpose how to make something.
Ingredients : This part describes the elements we need to make make something.
Steps/methods : This part describes the set of instructions.
Language feature of prosedure text
- Using simple present tense.
The simple present tense is one of several forms of present tense in English. It is used to
describe habits, unchanging situations, general truths, and fixed arrangements. The
simple present tense is simple to form. Just use the base form of the verb: (I take, you
take, we take, they take) The 3rd person singular takes an -s at the end. (he takes, she
takes)
The simple present tense is used:
• To express habits, general truths, repeated actions or unchanging situations,
emotions and wishes:
I smoke (habit); I work in London (unchanging situation); London is a large city (general
truth)

• To give instructions or directions:
You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left.
• To express fixed arrangements, present or future:
Your exam starts at 09.00
• To express future time, after some conjunctions: after, when, before, as soon as,
until:
He'll give it to you when you come next Saturday.
- Using adverbial of sequence such as; frist,second,next,after than,etc
- Using imperative sentences (Add two spoons of sugar, boil the water, etc.)
- Using action verbs such as; put,add,cut or slice etc
- Using adverb of time to express details of time.

Social Function of recipe It is used to describe how something is made in
sequenced steps.

How to make chicken rice
Materials:
- 2 plates of rice
- 1 clove of garlic and onion

Steps:

TASK 3 Read the text carefully
How to make pizza
Ingredients:
- Cheese
- Topping
- Spices
- Tomatoes
- Yeast
- Flour
- Pan
Steps:
1. First, get some yeast and a pan
2. Second, turn on your bread machine
3. Third, put flour, yeast into bread machine.
4. Fourth, take out in 30 minutes to an hour.
5. Fifth, Smash tomatoes, put in pizza.
6. Sixth, open cheese bag sprinkle on sauce.
7. Seventh, put topping of your choice on the pizza
8. Then, cook in oven 30 minutes to an hour.
9. After that, open an oven and take out pizza.
10. Finally, cut pizza into slices and it is ready to serve.

Procedure Text; Recipe
Procedure text is the text which gives the steps or procedures on how to do
something. Generally speaking, a recipe is a list of ingredients and a set of
instructions that tell you how to cook something. There are two different social
functions of recipe, they are as listed in the following explanation;
Recipe is used to describe how food is completely made or cooked through a
sequence of series.
Communicative purpose of recipe is to describe how food is completely made
through a sequence of actions or steps
Do you know that s recipe usually has three sections? There is an introductory
followed by a list of materials that will be needed to complete the procedure. The
final section is a sequence of steps. The followings are the generic structure of recipe;

1) First, open a packet of instant porridge by using a pair of scissor.
2) Second, put all ingredients into a bowl, except the crisps.
3) Then, pour a glass of hot water into the bowl.
4) Stir the mixture well.
5) Your instant porridge is ready to serve. Eat while warm. Don’t forget to add the crisps.

Steps
1) Pour the oil into the frying pan and heat it.

5) Take out the egg and put it on a plate.

Steps:
1) Put a few scoops of ice cream into the blender.
