Basic Call Flow in LTE - LTE Attach Procedure

After powering on, a UE will (1) scan frequency bands to search for cells, (2) decode synchronization signals to search for cells, (3) decode broadcast system information from cells, and (4) select a cell to connect to. It will then (5) initiate a random access procedure and (6-7) establish an RRC connection. Once connected, it will (8-17) perform authentication and security setup procedures and receive a NAS attach accept message. For mobile-terminated calls, the network must first page the UE.
