Globalization and Education

Globalization affects education in several ways. It encourages international collaboration between educational institutions to develop global skills and awareness. This includes integrating multicultural perspectives and preparing students for careers in multinational organizations. While globalization opens opportunities for international job markets, it also risks exacerbating technological divides between advanced and developing nations through unequal access to education resources. Overall, globalization both benefits and challenges national education systems in addressing a globally connected world.

GLOBALIZATION AND EDUCATION

https://edtechreview.in/news/2730-globalization-in-education

It is a widely defined word with several connotations to many different people. There has been a
hot debate about globalization. Some people believe globalization is a dangerous phenomenon
which has changed the world in negative ways. To them, globalization has brought undesirable
consequences to society, affecting its peace. On the other hand, another group of people regard
globalization as a fruitful phenomenon, making the world more connected and informed than
ever before. They look at it as a novel source for optimism in the world. It is clear that this group
see various advantages of globalization.

In describing both views, Jan Aart Scholte states that ‘Some people have associated
“globalization” with progress, prosperity and peace. For others, however, the word has conjured
up deprivation, disaster and doom.’

Scholte is Professorial Research Fellow in the Centre for the Study of Globalization and
Regionalization.

Having said so, it is obvious that the impact of globalization has been both positive and negative
in the sector of education.

Listed below are some points that highlight the positive and negative impacts globalization in
education has led to.

- Globalization has radically transformed the world in every aspect. But it has especially
transformed the world economy which has become increasingly inter-connected and inter-
dependent. But it also made the world economy increasingly competitive and more knowledge
based, especially in the developed western countries

- Global education interconnects methods of teaching from worldwide systems to encourage the
international development of environmental sustainability, as well as contribution toward
fortifying global industries. These educational initiatives prioritize global access to school from
the primary to the university levels, instigating learning experiences that prepare students for
multinational leadership roles.

- As education serves as foundational to global stability, the development of multicultural

awareness from an early age may integrate ideologies sourced from various societies in order
to arrive at well-balanced conclusions regarding issues that surround the world as a whole.
Globalization and education then come to affect one another through mutual goals of preparing
young people for successful futures during which their nations will grow increasingly connected.

- With globalization some of the challenges for knowledge, education and learning will provide
today’s learners the ability to be more familiar and comfortable with abstract concepts and
uncertain situations.

- Information society and global economy requires a holistic understanding of systems thinking,
including the world system and business eco-system. Globalization uses a holistic approach to
the problems. The interdisciplinary research approaches are seen as critical to achieving a more
comprehensive understanding the complex reality currently facing the world system.

- It enhances the student’s ability to manipulate symbols. Highly productive employment in

today’s economy will require the learner to constantly manipulate symbols, such as political,
legal and business terms, and digital money.

- Globalization enhances the student’s ability to acquire and utilize knowledge. Globalization
enhances the ability of learners to access, assess, adopt, and apply knowledge, to think
independently to exercise appropriate judgment and to collaborate with others to make sense of
new situations.

- Globalization produces an increased quantity of scientifically and technically trained persons.

The emerging economy is based on knowledge as a key factor of production and the industries
demand the employees remain highly trained in science and technology.

- It encourages students to work in teams. To be able to work closely in teams is the need for
employees. Working in teams requires students to develop skills in-group dynamics,
compromise, debate, persuasion, organization, and leadership and management skills.

- Globalization breaks the boundaries of space and time. Using advanced information and
communications technologies, a new system of knowledge, education and learning should apply
a wide range of synchronous and asynchronous activities that aid teacher and student in
breaking boundaries of space and time.

- Globalization meets the knowledge, education and learning challenges and opportunities of
the Information Age. Knowledge based businesses often complain that graduates lack the
capacity to learn new skills and assimilate new knowledge. Globalization makes it easier for
businesses.

- Globalization creates and supports information technologists, policy makers, and practitioners
for the purpose of rethinking education and supports mechanisms for the exchange of ideas and
experiences in the use of educational technologies.

- Globalization encourages explorations, experimentation to push the frontiers of the potential of

information technologies and communications for more effective learning.

- Global sharing of knowledge, skills, and intellectual assets that are necessary to multiple
developments at different levels.

- Mutual support, supplement and benefit to produce synergy for various developments of
countries, communities and individuals.

- Creating values and enhancing efficiency through the above global sharing and mutual support
to serving local needs and growth.

- Promoting international understanding, collaboration, harmony, and acceptance to cultural

diversity across countries and regions.
- Facilitating communications, interactions, and encouraging multi-cultural contributions at
different levels among countries.

- The potential fallback of globalization in education can be the increased technological gaps
and digital divides between advanced countries and less developed countries.

- Globalization in education may end up creating more legitimate opportunities for a few
advanced countries for a new form of colonization of developing countries.

National education systems that incorporate themes of globalization might offer an

intercultural dimension to students seeking professions in worldwide spheres. This

creates a holistic approach toward career development throughout various disciplines that blend

global and individual ways of thought so as to cultivate broader connections among international

business realms.

Global education interconnects methods of teaching from worldwide systems to encourage the

international development of environmental sustainability, as well as contribution toward

fortifying global industries. These educational initiatives prioritize global access to school from

the primary to the university levels, instigating learning experiences that prepare students for

multinational leadership roles.

International perspectives initiated through cross-cultural educational collaboration between

global institutions may transcend from academic spheres to professional organizations in which

the globally educated would retain advantageous skill sets generated through intercultural
communication experiences. This becomes valuable within multinational corporations that

necessitate global transactions to sustain worldwide trading partnerships.

As education serves as foundational to global stability, the development of multicultural

awareness from an early age may integrate ideologies sourced from various societies in order

to arrive at well-balanced conclusions regarding issues that surround the world as a whole.

Globalization and education then come to affect one another through mutual goals of preparing

young people for successful futures during which their nations will grow increasingly connected.

The Impact of Globalization in the Philippines

https://lookupgrade.com/en/blog/english-the-impact-of-globalization-in-the-philippines/

In the Philippines, globalization has brought many job opportunities to all Filipino people. The
government encourages foreign companies to establish business and open many jobs to
Filipino workers even abroad. The impact of globalization helps the Philippines community to be
more aware of what happens to the Philippines, it also gives the idea to many Filipino people to
have more knowledge and information on the Philippines society. At present globalization is
more effective in the Philippines, it helps to improve the local and foreign companies, the
culture, the education, and the development of the economy.

What is Globalization?

Globalization is the growth of international trade, investment, technology, and information all
over the world. It is the merge of all Asian countries with each other. Technology is a big factor
in globalization. Advanced and modern technology can help each nation to access borders and
top increase the economic growth of each country. Globalization expands more in terms of the
social, cultural, legal, and political. Each country has its own cultural globalization and they
represent and exchange it to other countries about the new ideas and values of their country.
They also share the development of their country and help some countries if needed.

In the Philippines, globalization is important in how it works in the economy and the
development of technology. Globalization helps each country to have cooperated to help each
other and be united. Globalization is formed to process goods, services, and people around the
world. It works for every people to move and work in a different country as well as the goods of
each country can also be imported and exported to a different country and destination. It helps
every nation to develop a global economy and increase the income of each country.
Also, globalization can be mean to liberalize each country their rule and regulation to follow,
people can enter a different country as long they follow the rules and law of the country they
when to or work to. Globalization works for each country through the World Trade Organization
and the United Nation because international law is created and enforced. Globalization helps
developing countries to their industrial, manufacturing, improvements, and economic expansion
of living. It is also the interaction of all economies of the world in terms of financial transaction,
political, educational, trade, and manufacturing production. However, Globalization can have a
disadvantage and also an advantage to each country.

The advantage of Globalization:

Globalization can have more opportunities to increase employment. This advantage of

globalization can help the Philippines to increase the employment of Filipino people because of
the opportunities that many foreign countries put up a business here and many job vacancies
for Filipino are available. There are a lot of multinational companies that really open up a
business in the Philippines and hire many Filipino people to work at their companies. Also,
globalization has an advantage in opening jobs abroad. There is a lot of overseas Filipino
worker who is work abroad and can be successful in working in another country.  Because of
the World Trade Organization of the nation, each person can work in a different country and
have the opportunity to live there and be a citizen in the country they live in. In the Philippines,
foreign companies are build up here and many Filipino is now working in foreign companies.
This means that globalization really affects positively to the Philippines and to the economy of
the Philippines.
Globalization can also help the Philippines ‘ education to improve more. In the Philippines
when it terms of education we improve more and we offer higher education and skilled people.
Education in the Philippines is now recognized outside the country. And many foreigners are
going here to study because the quality of education is higher while the cost is lower and can
accommodate all foreigner who wants to studies in the Philippines. One reason also is the lower
cost of living while studying here. The Filipino people are smart and can communicate well with
other foreigners. Speaking English in the Philippines is a natural language of Filipino because it
is one of the subjects of all schools. At present, the Philippines has a large outsourcing foreign
companies, especially in Metro Manila.
Globalization improves the flow of information technology. When in terms of information
technology of the Philippines it flows very well and helps the Filipino to have knowledge and
updates about the latest technology that all countries use. The impact of globalization in the
Philippines technology brings more positive effect because it helps to increase the economy of
the Philippines. Because of the information technology with the latest and modern use, it
improves the flow of all company products and also minimizes the work of every Filipino.

Globalization improves the quality of goods and services. Being connected to another

country means good to our country. It helps to do good quality and give the best services to
them so that we bring dignity to the Filipino people. Improving our services and give more
quality goods and products to other countries can boost the Philippines and its nation. The
Philippines can offer a good quality product outside the country and Filipino people can serve
their best to others. Through globalization, the service of goods and product is easily served and
done to deliver it to each respective destination.
The disadvantage of Globalization:

In some areas, if there is the advantage of globalization there is also a disadvantage it. Some of
it is the distraction of the Philippines environment and the effect on human nature. Globalization
is not also good in terms of exporting rice products in the agriculture sector. Because we all
know that Filipino farmers can produce much rice if the government will help them in providing a
modern technology that can create or produce as many rice grain in every quarter of the year.
The Philippines has a lot of natural resources and if the government teach all Filipino how to
value and preserve our natural resources we don’t need to export some product to other
countries. Filipino are talented and hardworking if one of each Filipino support the government
of the Philippines we can be the number one of the richest country in Asia. But the effect of
globalization sometimes helps Filipino people to be lazy and not productive because of the
modern technology it has to give.

 Also when in terms of Filipino who work abroad there are many Filipino workers who
have faced many problems and are stranded in a foreign country and far away from the support
of the Philippine government.
 One effect of globalization to the Philippines is the lack of Filipino traditions and values
that most younger Filipino don’t appreciate and they don’t even practice it in their daily life. They
become more familiar with Western mentality than being a pure Filipino.
 Because of globalization, the effect of these on all Filipino people sometimes is not good
especially in the health of Filipino like the rapid spread of AIDS that mostly comes from the
outside the country. Filipino who have sexual intercourse with a foreigner sometimes gets this
kind of disease it can spread fast to other people without their knowledge.
 Social media has also a big side effect in the Philipines when it comes to cyber crimes
and the increase of sex videos.
 The standard of living of a Filipino has a negative effect because of globalization. Like
some moral values that most Filipino has were forgotten. Some young Filipinos are now
liberated like other countries in the way of their living. A lot of them especially those couples are
living in with marriage.

The Effect of Globalization in the Philippines

Globalization can help Filipino people to know the international status and rights of each country
nationwide. The Philippines are also been friendly to a foreign country and they now stay
connected in terms of the exchange of products and some investment. Globalization has also a
big part in the improvement of local and social culture in the Philippines. It also connects
relationships in other countries through investments and some business opportunities.

The impact of globalization in the Philippines changes a lot in terms of culture, values, and
economy. It also helps the improvement of infrastructure in the Philippines. It gives more
opportunities to all Filipinos to work abroad and help each country to stay connected.
Globalization has also helped to let know the people about global warming, climate change, and
the natural resources of the Philippines.

The effect of globalization can help flexible communication and greater understanding in terms
of improvement and development of each country’s condition. It also helps the local and
international market to create flexible labor across the miles. Globalization affects the
international market and enhances economic growth.
