Screen 6 : Make a prediction
In our solar system, what is the relationship between a planet's distance from the sun and the planet's speed?
In the solar system, the bigger planet is orbit slower than the smaller one.
Screen 7 : Plan your work
Describe your plan for exploring a planet's distance from the sun and speed as it orbits the sun.
- choose a planet - record the mass and the distance from the planets orbit to the sun - repeat for all
planets

Screen 9 : Analyze your results
What was the relationship between a planet's distance from the sun and the planet's average speed?
The average speed of planet decreases the further it is from the sun. If it is far, it will orbit slower.

Screen 10 : Evaluate your conclusions
How does your conclusion compare to how scientists explain this?
The gravity of the sun is not as strong when the planet far, so it will be slower.

Screen 12 : Distance from sun, mass, and speed
What has the greater effect on a planet's speed: its mass or its distance from the sun?
The distance from the sun has the greater effect on the average speed of the planet. When the distance
was the same, the mass had co effect on the speed on the speed of the average of the planet.
Screen 13 : Comets
How does a comet's speed change as it moves along its orbit? Explain your answer.
When it gets closer to the sun it goes faster, when it is far from the sun it slows down. It has an eliptical
orbit.

How does the mass of a star affect the planet's speed?
If the mass of the star increases, the average speed of the planet also increases.
