BOUNCE BACK 03

SPIRITUAL RECOVERY
TEXT: PSALM 51:10-12

Introduction:
 It’s Time To Make A Change.
Think of your status or situation,
what if hindi na nagbago?
 BOUNCE BACK. : to return quickly to a normal condition after a difficult situation or event
 Everybody needs a bounce back, lalo na kung hindi maganda ang sitwasyon or kung gusto mo pang mas
umayos ang iyong sitwasyon.
 In a battle, you and I may lose money, pride, or control over a situation. But if the struggle brings us to
the point of total surrender to the Lord, we will always win spiritually.(Charles Stanley)
 King David looked with lust on Bathsheba as she bathed; he had her brought to his palace and engaged in an
adulterous alliance with her.  Then when she told him she was pregnant, he tried to cover his sin by having
her husband Uriah brought home from battle for some R&R.  Uriah refused the luxury of sleeping at home,
so David had him abandoned in the front lines of battle where he was slain.
 Then he planned and plotted to carry out his sin, and he put great effort into concealing it.
 End of the story? In 2 Samuel 12, One day the prophet Nathan shows up at the palace. He tells king David
about a rich man who has stolen a poor man's only lamb and slaughtered it for dinner. Then king David was
filled with anger. "What? Who is this guy? Tell me, and we will nail him!"
 "You're the guy!" says Nathan. David is devastated. And this psalm, says our heading, is the sort of prayer
that fits such a situation. When there's big time trouble, you call in Psalm 51. This Psalm will restore your
intimate relationship with God.
 Let’s look at the context by reading verses 1-12
 Ps 51 A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with
Bathsheba.
 TEXT: Psalm 51:10-12
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. NKJV

 This Psalm reveals David's folly and restoration.  It is the Psalm of the changed heart.  David's story could
be told and retold under a hundred different scenarios.  Maybe this Psalm relates your own story.  This
morning let me relate a situation that parallels and illustrates the universal process of spiritual recovery.
1. RENEW
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

 renew - return to doing something: to begin something or doing something again, or be begun again
evil...
 What dirt is to the body, sin is to the soul and spirit, so tama lang para kay David na maramdaman ang
karumihan dahil sa kanyang mga ginawa.
 The verb "create" (verse 10) in the Hebrew Bible always has God as its subject, and the result of the
activity is always something entirely new. The psalmist is praying for a brand new beginning, a fresh start, a
new, clean spirit.
 Kaya siya nagpapa-renew kasi may “nag expire” or may “nasira”.
 David requested cleansing. When we allow God to cleanse us, great things take place. The mountain of
our guilt is removed, our condemnation is taken away, we are freed from the voice of the Accuser, our sin
is buried in the grave of forgetfulness, He removes the penalty and pollution of our sin, He restores our
joy and receives us back into close fellowship with Himself.
 Kaya nagpapa-renew kasi may na-expired. And because of expiration hindi na ito magamit.
 May napanis.
 And renew a steadfast (right, willing) spirit within me.
 Importante ang “willing spirit”. Without willingness there is no movement. There’s no promotion.
There’s no progress.
 Renewed people are useful and growing. If this is not happening in your life ask God for renewal. David
did it and he was renewed. You can do it to.

2. REMAIN
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

 The statement simply shows na ayaw niyang mawala sa presensya ng Diyos.

 This is a personal decision to stay with God.

3. RESTORE
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. NKJV

 David has lost his joy and wants it back!

 restore
1. return something to previous condition: to bring something back to an earlier and better condition
2. energize somebody: to give somebody new strength or vigor
3. return somebody to previous position: to return somebody to a previously held rank, office, or
position
4. put something back: to reestablish or put back something that was once but is no longer there
 Restore the “happiness” and “willingness”
 “Make me as happy as you did when you saved me; make me want to obey.” Contemporary English
Version
 If you are saved, sin will make you the most miserable person on the face of the earth. You cannot live in
a backslidden condition and expect to have happiness. Joy is the by-product of a right relationship with
God!
 You can tell a backslider by his/her lack of joy.
buhay. True abiding joy is not affected by circumstance or difficulty. It is, however, affected by sin. If
true joy is missing in your life, it is because something has gotten between you and God! Simple lang,
pag wala nang joy try to check your relationship with God. Then fix it. Wag mo nang patagalin. Lack of
Joy affects every in your life.

 Don’t you want that for yourself? You can have it right now.

Conclusion:
 David destroyed much good when he sinned. Ang daming nasira at naapektuhan.. But noong naayos sya at
nakabalik, he also did great things during his lifetime and served the Lord faithfully.
 In a battle, you and I may lose money, pride, or control over a situation. But if the struggle brings us to the
point of total surrender to the Lord, we will always win spiritually. (Charles Stanley)
 Song: Create In Me A Clean Heart
 Create in me a clean heart, oh God
And renew a right spirit within me
Create in me a clean heart, oh God
And renew a right spirit within me
Cast me not away from Thy presence, oh Lord
And take not Thy holy spirit from me
Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation
And renew a right spirit within me
