OBJECTIVES:
 Identify the nature and purpose of online platforms and applications
 Apply web design principles & elements using online creation tools, platforms, and application.

CONTENT & DISCUSSION:

ONLINE PLATFORMS
These are technologies that are grouped to be used as a base upon which other applications processes or
technologies are developed.

Purpose:
 Create and share materials and information which can be accessed online
 Publish plans and other resources online enabling users to access them anywhere.
 Access a variety of material that can be customized.
 Increase ICT competence & confidence.

Different Online Platforms & Applications


1. Presentation/ Visualization
Primary goal is to communicate information clearly and efficiently via statistical graphics and/or plots.
Examples:
 Prezi
 Zoho
 Slideshare
2. Cloud Computing
The practice of using a network of a remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage, and
process data, rather than a local server.
Examples:
 Google Drive
 Dropbox
3. Social Media
Computer meditated tools that allow people, companies, and other organizations to create, share or
exchange information in virtual communities and network.
Examples:
 Facebook
 Twitter
 Instagram
4. Web Page Creation
Encompasses a number of important elements including color, layout, and overall graphical appearance.
Examples:
 Wiz
 Weebly
5. File Management
Storing, naming, sorting, and handling computer files.
Examples:
 Zamzar
 Word2pdf
6. Mapping
Transformation of taking the points of one space into the points of the same or other space.
Examples:
 Google Maps
 Ikimapia

Basic Web Page Creation


An effective website designing is more than just gathering relevant information and posting it on the web. It is
more like of a good research presentation.

Elements in Making a Website

 Objective. Consider the audience and goals. It is better to plan before creating a site.
 Lay-outing. Strive for consistency, provide rich sets of links within the site and never hide important
information.
 The Web Medium. Provide opportunities for interactions and avoid text-only web page. Always provide
a link for every URL used in the site.
 The Front Door. Give descriptive title about the website like doing a brief introduction.
 Accessibility. Make sure the text use is legible and the platform site is independent.
 The End Game. Thoroughly test the site and proofread before posting any materials.

Website Template. A predesigned webpage usually built with HTML and CSS code
Web Portal. A website that contains information from different sources and places them in one location in a
uniform way (Yahoo! is an example of a web portal).
WYSIWYG stands for “What You See Is What You Get”, is a system in which editing software allows content
to be edited in a form that resembles its appearance when printed or displayed as a finished product, such
as a printed document, web page, or slide presentation.

Types of Web Page Template

 PSD (Photoshop)
PSD (Photoshop Document) is an image file format native to Adobe’s popular
Photoshop Application. It’s an image editing friendly format that supports
multiple image layers and various imaging options. PSD files are commonly
used for containing high quality graphics data. A PSD file is capable of holding
30,000 pixels in both height and width and the size of the file can extent to 2 gigabytes. Graphic
Designers, Publishers, Producers, and many other professionals uses PSD files for finalizing templates,
exporting printable, graphics and so on. CorelDRAW is a great application for handling PSD files.

 HTML (Web Page)


The HyperText Markup Language, or HTML is the standard markup language
for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser.
