The two new strands of DNA are just the same. The new strands are the product of replication,
the new strands are copied from the parent strand, and to be able to make replication possible, a
specific base pairing ensures that it is accurate.
There are four nucleotides present in a DNA, the adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine. These
nucleotides form a base pair that serves as a rung of the DNA Ladder. Adenine always pairs with thymine
while guanine always pairs with cytosine, so if there is adenine in one side of the strand, there will be
thymine in the other side and same goes with guanine and cytosine . The two strands of DNA are
bonded together by hydrogen bonds between the base pairs, adenine and thymine produces three
hydrogen bonds while guanine and cytosine produces two hydrogen bonds.
A DNA in often compared with a zipper since they both have two strands that are connected to
each other. The two sides of a zipper represents the two strands of the molecule of the DNA and the
teeth of the zipper resembles four DNA nucleotides. We all know that the two sides of zipper grow apart
when unzipped and rejoined together after, it also happens in the process of DNA replication, the two
strands come apart when replication takes place but will eventually rejoin together after the process.
How is information from the DNA passed on from one cell to another?
Information from the DNA is passed on from one cell to another because of a process called
DNA Replication. The genetic information stored in the DNA is copied within the existing nucleic chain,
the DNA will then form a new chain that contains the same information. DNA also makes copy of its
chromosomes before cell division and during the cell division, DNA is already in its compact
chromosome form allowing its transfer to new cells.
How does the structure of a DNA molecule help account for the great variety of life that exists on
earth?
Structure of a DNA molecule help account for the great variety of life that exists on earth
because every structure of DNA in each organism are different, it makes every life on Earth unique from
each other. DNA has the capacity to store information that’s why it contains all the instructions to be
able to produce a unique organism that will maintain it throughout its life. Because of that difference,
various life on Earth have variations in the population, different physical structure and organization of
the body.
