AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE SS3

WEEK 3

TOPIC: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF FARM ANIMALS I

TEXTBOOK: Essential Agricultural Science for Senior Secondary Schools

Author: O. A. Iwena Publisher: Tonad pp. 264-266

INTRODUCTION/SUMMARY
Anatomy refers to the FORM and STRUCTURE of the body of a farm animal, while
physiology refers to the FUNCTIONS of parts of the body of farm animals.
The body of farm animals is divided into 4 major groups namely: the head, the thoracic
cavity, abdominal cavity and the limbs. Students are to take note of the functions of the
four (4) parts.
Under this topic too, we shall be looking at some of the systems which maintain the body
of farm animals. These include
1. Digestive system
2. Circulatory system
3. Respiratory system
4. Nervous system
5. Reproductive system
For purpose of clarity, a goat is to be dissected to identify some of these systems and
important organs such as digestive tract, the heart, lung, brain, kidney, liver, etc.
Dissection will be done in school when you eventually resume.

ASSIGNMENT
1. Draw and label all parts of a cow, take note of the 4 groupings
2. List 5 important internal organs of farm animals and state their functions
