Barack Hussein Obama II gave his acceptance speech for his 2nd nomination way back in

2012 as the President of the United States. He was a politician attorney, the 44th president, and

the first African- American president in the U.S.

Mr. Barack Obama started his speech by expressing his gratitude to his supporters and

families who believed in him during his 1st term as the President of the United States. He

showed great confidence in front of his supporters and made some opening jokes to catch their

attention and lighten the mood. As the speaker, himself, he used his experience of the

phenomena of the real world; and this includes his experience of the internal worlds of his own

consciousness. He pointed out the problems of the state and gave them the vision of the future if

they don’t use the opportunity to vote wisely. In which, expresses what’s happening, what’s

being done, what’s felt, and what the state is. He is using language as the means of his own

intrusion in the speech event. His expression of his comments, attitudes, evaluations, and also of

the relationship that he sets up between himself and the listener. He uses simple words and short

sentences. His audiences vary from the rich, the poor, the black and white American’s, and so

on, that’s why he made sure that everyone can relate, no one will be offended and the audiences

were given an assurance of a better future with him. In order to shorten the distance between Mr.

Obama and the listeners, I can observe Obama used a lot of spoken English. The speech reflects

his political platforms; such as American History, the present crisis, and global issues.

I can hear from his speech that he uses the words, we / Americans / each of us /all / our

because it is a great choice of words in addressing to demonstrate what the government has

achieved, what they are doing, and what they will do in different aspects. American people’s
confidence towards the president and his government earned their trust and support in their

policies. I also noticed that he was appealing to the audience’s inner heart to connect the political

beliefs, ambitions with their expectation, and hope in a clear and emphasized way. Mr. Obama

layout his reforms or steps taken in his term to foster the buildup of the country and the

corresponding charge or results of these measures in the future. He also layout the opponent’s

disadvantages in order to give him an advantage.

On the basis of my discussion above, we may come to the conclusion that Mr.

Obama’s speeches as follows; first, he used simple and short sentences instead of difficult ones.

His language is easy and colloquial. Second, Obama showed us what the government achieved

and what else can they offer to the citizens. We can find that Obama made his audience more

easily to understand and accept his political plans. He used simple tense to present domestic and

worldwide situations, so it can help him persuade the public. Thus, it can easily shorter the

distance between him and the audience.
