Electrical Power System (1)

Sheet (1)

Problem 1

A 60 Hz, three-phase 160-km transmission line has r =0.1 Ω/km, L=1.25 mh/km
and C=0.01 μf/km. The line delivers 30 MW at 132 KV with 0.9 p.f lag. Using
the T-model (medium Line), Calculate the following:
a-The sending end voltage, current, power and sending power factor.
b- The regulation and efficiency of this operation.

Problem 2
a-Derive an expression relating sending end voltage and current with receiving
end in case of medium transmission line (п-section).

b- A 132 KV, three-phase, 50-Hz, 200 Km transmission line has the following
distributed parameters:
R= 0.157 Ω/Km; L=1.265x10-3 H/Km; C= 8.75x10-9 F/Km.
Calculate: a-the sending end voltage, current, power, and power factor,
b- the voltage regulation and the efficiency. When delivering 50 MVA, at 0.8 pf.
lagging. Assume-medium line (п-section).

Problem 3
A three-phase, 60 Hz, completely transposed 345 KV, 200 Km line has two
795000 cmil 26/2 ACSR conductors per bundle and the following positive-
sequence line constants:
z=0.032 +j 0.35 Ω/km
-6
y= j 4.2x10 S/km.
Full load at the receiving end of the line is 700 MW at 0.99 p.f. leading and at
95% of rated voltage. Assuming a medium-length line, determine the following:
i-ABCD parameters of the nominal π -circuit.
ii-Sending-end voltage VS, current IS and real power PS.
iii-Percent voltage regulation.
iv-Transmission line efficiency at full load.
Problem 4
a-Derive an expression relating sending end voltage and current with receiving
end in case of long transmission line.

b-A three-phase 765 KV, 60 Hz, 300 km, completely transposed line has the
following positive- sequence impedance and admittance:
z= 0.0165 + j 0.3306 = 0.331 87.14 0 Ω/km
y=j 4.674 x 10-6 S/km.
Assuming positive-sequence operation, calculate the exact ABCD parameters of
the line. Compare the exact B parameter with that of the nominal π -circuit.

Problem 5
a- Derive a formula for sending end and receiving end power flow in transmission
line in terms of ABCD constants.
b- Calculate the real and reactive power loss in the transmission line of problem 1.

a-Derive an expression relating sending end voltage and current with receiving
end in case of medium transmission line (T-section).

distributed parameters:
R= 0.157 Ω/Km; L=1.265x10-3 H/Km; C= 8.75x10-9 F/Km.
Calculate: a-the sending end voltage, current, power, and power factor,
b- the voltage regulation and the efficiency. When delivering 50 MW, at 0.85 pf.
lagging. Assume Π –section.

Problem 6
a- Derive an expression relating sending end voltage and current with receiving
end in case of medium transmission line (Π-section). b-A three-phase 132 KV, 50
Hz, 100 km, completely transposed line has the following positive- sequence
impedance and admittance:
z= 0.0165 + j 0.3306 = 0.331 87.14 0 Ω/km
y=j 4.674 x 10-6 S/km.
Calculate: a-the sending end voltage, current, power, and power factor,
b- the voltage regulation and the efficiency. When delivering 50 MW, at 0.85
pf. lagging. Assume T–section.
