INTEGRATIVE PROJECT PLANNING AND DESIGN—PREREQUISITE

Beginning in the programming and predesign phase, at a minimum, project teams should
implement the following processes:
l Owner’s Project Requirements Document: Projects should prepare the owner’s pro-
ject requirements (OPR) and a health mission statement to be incorporated into the
OPR.
l Preliminary Rating Goals: Project teams should conduct a preliminary LEED meet-
ing with a minimum of four key members and the owner or owner’s representative to
create a LEED action plan.
l Integrated Project Team: Integrated project team should be assembled, which should
include as many professionals as—the number cannot be fewer than four members—
in addition to the owner or owner’s representative.
l Design Charrette: Project teams should conduct, at a minimum, a four-hour char
rette that includes as many professionals as feasible.
INTEGRATIVE PROCESS—CREDIT
Project teams should perform the following analyses for both energy- and water-related sys-
tems.

1. Energy related systems:

Before completing the schematic design, project teams should perform a “simple box”
energy modeling. Project teams should assess at least two strategies associated with
each of the following: site conditions, massing and orientation, basic envelope attrib-
utes, lighting levels, thermal comfort ranges, plug and process load needs, and pro-
grammatic and operational parameters.

Project teams should document how these analyses and findings informed the project’s
OPR, BOD, and design, including the following as applicable:
§ Building and site program
§ Building form and geometry
§ Building envelope and facade specifications on different orientations
§ Elimination and/or significant downsizing of building systems
§ Other systems

2. Water related systems:

Projects should perform a preliminary water budget analysis before completing the
schematic design. Project teams should evaluate all of the following: indoor water de-
mand, outdoor water demand, process water demand, and supply sources.

The credit requires projects to find at least one nonpotable water source and reduce
the burden on the municipality-supplied water or wastewater treatment systems by
contributing to at least two of the water demand components listed above. Project
teams should document how these analyses informed the project’s OPR, BOD, and
design, including the following as applicable:
§ Plumbing systems
§ Sewage conveyance and/or on-site treatment systems
§ Rainwater quantity and quality management systems
§ Landscaping, irrigation, and site elements
§ Roofing systems and/or building form and geometry
§ Other systems
With the completion of the preliminary energy and water research and analysis, the credit
requires project teams to conduct a goal-setting workshop.
