FINAL EXAMINATION

1. Explain the importance of a healthy relationship between History and the Historian.
And discuss the significant dynamics of Historiography.

History is made up of a series of events that are significant enough to be remembered,

recounted, and documented by the persons involved or their descendants. Historians, on the
other hand, study primary sources such as legends, prayers, official narratives, and economic,
administrative, political, and legal documents. In order to describe the relationship between
history and the historian, you must first study the two entities' precise definitions. Given the
significant correlation between the two, describing what each signifies would have been difficult.
History can never be complete without a historian taking part in studying and, perhaps,
documenting the findings. Thus, history is about life in the past and teaches us about people
who lived in different eras. When we study history, we will learn about the lives of ordinary
people as well as famous people. We learn about their clothing, as well as their homes, food,
equipment, and technologies. History also teaches us about battles, wars, and famines that
occurred in the past. Historians, on the other hand, are people who study history and try to find
answers about life in the past. Historians ask questions and look for evidence of life in the past.
They investigate history by looking for clues in the writings and images they discover, as well as
in items such as clothing, instruments, and ornaments that still exist today. All of these hints or
facts must be understood, clarified, and documented. When no evidence remains, it can be
difficult to interpret history. Historians, however, are required to complete this task.

Furthermore, historiography is the process of creating historical records, which is the first step in
understanding and interpreting the past, or “the history of historical writings and changing
intellectual points of view.” Historiography can also be defined as the study of how history was
written, by whom, and why it was written in the first place. Consequently, it examines whether
and why historical events have been reinterpreted by historians over time. Historiography is
important for a variety of reasons. First off, it explains why past events have been interpreted so
differently over time. In other words, historiography allows one to investigate not only history but
also the broader integrated and holistic features that comprise the documentation of history.
And, perhaps most importantly, historiography enables one to examine history critically.

2. What was the life of early natives before the coming of the Spaniards? Discuss the
brand of the civilization of the early natives as manifested in the different Primary
Sources

The various primary sources, from Antonio Pigafetta's narrative to Juan de Plasencia's
narrative, both described native people living in small towns known as barangays. A Datu was
the leader of a barangay. Many barangays, made up of 30 to 100 families, would band together
for safety and protection. This way of life had the potential to have a significant impact on the
languages at the time. The people of the Philippines were not united under a single government,
but rather under a number of smaller governments, and they spoke many different languages
and dialects of each language. Around this time, there were 3 social classes - the Nobles
(Maharlikas), the leaders in politics and trade. The Commoners (alipingnamamahay) are the
slaves with properties and homes and serve their master when necessary; and the Slaves
(alipinsaguiguilis), the Slaves, who reside in the house of their master without property or
homes. At this time, the various barangays openly traded. Foreign trade also took place in the
area with Japan, China, Borneo, Sumatra, Thailand, Cambodia, and other islands. During this
time, Chinese and perhaps many of the other languages they were introduced to had a
significant influence on the Philippine languages.
3. Discuss the importance of the Content and Contextual Analysis in the determination of
the credibility of a particular Historical Fact.

A comprehensive examination of the text's primary sources is required for historical

context and historical analysis. The historical context, in more technical terms, refers to the
social, ethnic, economic, and political conditions that existed at a certain period and place. It is,
in essence, all the details of the time and location in which an event occurred, and it is these
elements that allow one to comprehend and evaluate works or occurrences from the past, or
even the future, rather than simply judging them by modern standards. A clear understanding of
the historical context behind the development of work would help one understand and
appreciate the text better in literature. When studying historical events, knowing the context will
help you comprehend why people acted the way they did. In this way, we can examine historical
facts while being neutral and unbiased. No work of literature can be fully appreciated or
comprehended without historical background. What may appear absurd or even offensive by
today's standards could be viewed in a completely different light if the context in which it was
created is considered. Without a historical context, we only witness a portion of the scene and
are unable to fully comprehend the impact of the time and place in which a circumstance
originated, so affecting the reliability of a historical event.

4. In the advent of technological advancement and the rise of Social Media. Do you think
the learnings in History and the appreciation of the Primary Sources can help students
determine fake and authentic sources? Why? Explain and support your answer.

From my standpoint, learning about history and appreciating primary sources, can help
children be critical and skeptical enough not to trust everything they see on social media
platforms. As a student who has first-hand studied History and values primary sources, I feel
compelled to dive deep and look for evidence of authenticity when I come across a questionable
article.

The teaching and learning of history support educational approaches which involve
students in the process of "doing" historical knowledge through the use of primary sources,
carrying out historical research, and encouraging the student to think about it historically. This
approach encourages students to ask questions and gather solid evidence to support their
answers; to look beyond the facts presented in their textbooks and examine the historical record
for themselves; to consult documents, journals, diaries, artifacts, historic sites, works of art,
quantitative data, and other evidence from the past. Taking account of the history of the records
and comparing the multiple points of view of the people at the time to building understandings of
historical importance.
