VERSUS CAUSE NO. 19-184-WLK

JAYLON LAWSON DEFENDANT

MOTION TO SET BAIL

COME NOW Defendant, Jaylan Lawson, through his attorney Thomas Fortner, and

moves this honorable Court to set reasonable bail in the above-numbered cause. In support

hereof Mr. Lawson would show:

1. Mr. Lawson is charged with Armed Robbery and Convicted Felon In Possession

of a Firearm. He is indicted as an Habitual Offender pursuant to M.C.A. Section 99-19-81. The

crimes are alleged to have occurred on October 25, 2018. Mr. Lawson was arrested and charged

on April 15, 2019.

2. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Lawson was on parole with the M.D.O.C., his parole

was revoked based on this current charge, and he has now served that earlier sentence and was

released on E.R.S. status in October, 2020. He has been housed at the Raymond Detention

Center since release by the M.D.O.C. No bail has been set in this current indictment.

3. Mr. Lawson’s current trial date is March 8, 2021. If he were able to obtain release

on bond, he would live in Hinds County with his family. He would be obligated to report

monthly to his E.R.S. officer. He could hopefully obtain employment and meet his financial

obligations for representation. The Court could place additional release conditions on Mr.

Lawson to assure the Court that he is neither a flight risk or a threat to the community.

WHEREFORE, PREMISES CONSIDERED, the Defendant respectfully requests this

honorable Court to set reasonable bail in this matter pending trial.
