Electric Wire
The electric wires used for the wire harness
consists of the conductor made from numbers
of twisted mild copper wire with a diameter of
less than 0.5mm and the insulator surrounding
the connector.
The insulator is generally made from vinyl
chloride and covers the conductor with even
thickness. The insulators are calour coded in
order to distinguish each wire. The base calours
or the stripe patterns i used to differentiate the
harness. Each calour of wires is indicated by the
DOIKH001R09046
abbreviation in the repair manual and the
electrical wiring diagram.

2. Multimeter
A multimeter is a combined function of a
voltmeter, an ohmmeter and an ammeter. It
can be used to check circuit voltage,
ampere, resistance and continuity. The
positive probe (red lead) is applied to the
positive signal of the circuit and negative
probe (black lead) is applied to negative
signal of the circuit.
DOIKH001R09049
3. VMI (PADT-07)
VMI (Vehicle Measurement Interface) is a
sub-tool of the PADT-07. It has the function
of a multimeter and an oscilloscope. Please
refer to your PADT-07 User Guide for
further information.
COMPONENT CHECKING
Cables & wires
These are guidelines when checking the cables
and wires in a vehicle;
1. Check the connections for looseness, rust &
DOIMC13AR07130 stain.
2. Check the terminal wires for corrosion
caused by battery electrolyte.
3. Check terminals and wires for open circuit
or impeding open circuit.
4. Check wire insulation and coating for
damage, cracks and degrading.
5. Check conductive parts of terminals not to
contact with other metallic parts (vehicle
body and other parts)
6. Check grounding parts to verify the con-
tinuity between attaching bolts and vehicle
body.
7. Check for incorrect wiring.

Switches
In a circuit diagram, a switch is represented by a
symbol in its idle state.
For NO type switch (normally open), the switch
idle state is open. When the switch is Off, the
circuit is opened and when the switch is turn On
then the circuit is closed.
For NC type switch (normally close), the switch
idle state is close. When the switch is Off, the
circuit is closed and when the switch is turn On
then the circuit is opened.
DOIKH001R09061
Relays
By using a relay, a heavy current can be turned
On and Off by a switch of small capacity.
When current flows through the coil of the
relay, its core is magnetized to attract the iron
piece, closing the contact at the tip of the iron
piece. The current now flow from the relays
contact switch to the illumination lamp. When
the coil current is turned of, the iron piece is
made to return to its original position by a
spring, opening the contact.

Fuses
Test taps are provided on top of the fuse to
allow checking without removing it. Use a test
lamp for the test.
Visual check can also be conducted to deter-
mine the fuse condition
1. Blown fuse due to exceeded current
In this case, the current flow is greater than
the fuse rating. Do not use higher fuse
rating as the problem may cause from a
short circuit. Check and repair the problem.
Replace the fuse with the same fuse rating
only when the correction is done.
2. Blown fuse due to repeated on/off function
This problem occurs after a long period of
use. Replace the fuse with the same fuse
capacity.
DOIKH001R09059
Battery
When checking or servicing that does not
require power from the on-vehicle battery,
disconnect the cable from the battery negative
terminal. This is to prevent short circuit from
occurring during service.
Disconnect the negative terminal first and
reconnect it last.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
Below guideline can be followed to determine
the problem causes during troubleshooting;

Open circuit
If a voltmeter isconnected to point where the
open circuit has occured, the circuit will be
completed and the bulb will lights up.
A simple method to check for open circuit is to
check with voltmeter from point to point to
determine where the open circuit had occurred.

Short circuit
A short circuit can cause overheat and can melt
wiring harness, where in certain cases it can also
damage connectors and parts. Fuses are used to
protect the circuit from a short circuit. A blown
fuse is an often signed of a short circuit.
Therefore never replace the fuse and leave the
problem unattended.
Remove the blown fuse and replace with a test
lamp to check for a short circuit.
1. Remove the relay
- If the test lamp still illuminates when the
relay has been remove, then there is a short
circuit a short circuit between the fuse and
the relay. The illumination lamp will not
turn on in this case.
2. Remove the switch
- If the test lamp still illuminates when the
switch has been remove, then there is a
short circuit a short circuit between the
relay and the switch. The illumination lamp
will turn on in this case
NOTE
Check the contact of the switch. In this case,
the if the switch contact is faulty, it can also
cause the test lamp to illuminate.
3. Check the illumination lamp
DOIKH001R09053
-Turn the switch to ’ON’ position. If the
illuminations lamp does not turn ’ON’, then
there is a short circuit between the relay
and the illumination lamp.

Voltage drop
The standard value for voltage drop is as
follows;
A- From connector to connector, the voltage
drop should be less than 0.1 V.
B- From load to ground, the volage drop should
be less than 0.01 V.
NOTE
To check the voltage drop at the illumination
lamp, turn the switch ’ON’’ to energized the
relay and complete the illumination lamp
circuit.

OPERATION
Placing the lighting switch in the ‘‘TAIL’’ or ‘‘HEAD’’ position causes the tail lamp relay to be
energized.
As a result, current flows by way of dedicated fuse No. 2 and No. 3 to each lamp, causing the lamp
to go on.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
1. No lamp go on. (Headlamp go ON)
Check dedicated fuse No.10 and No.13 in RW BEC. box.
Check tail lamp relay.
DOIKH008R09001
DOIKH008R07010
DOIKH008R09002
OPERATION
<Turn-signal lamp>
1. In normal operating condition
When the ignition switch is placed in the ‘‘ON’’ position, battery voltage is applied through the
fuse No 6 (10A) SF Box and hazard switch to the turn-signal and hazard flasher unit.
When the turn signal switch is turned to the ‘‘LH’’ or ‘‘RH’’ position, the relay contact turns ‘‘ON’’
and ‘‘OFF’’ repeatedly due to the switching operation of the condenser and transistor inside the
flasher unit, and the turn signal lamp and the ‘‘LH’’ or ‘‘RH’’ of the turn signal indicator lamp
flash.
2. When one bulb is burnt
When either one of the turn signal lamps is burnt, the resistance of the entire lamp circuit
increases, so that the time required for charging and discharging of the condenser is shortened,
causing the ‘‘ON’’ ‘‘OFF’’ cycle of the relay to become faster than normal and the number of
flasher to increase.
<Hazard lamp>
When the hazard switch is turned to the ‘‘ON’’ position, current flows via fuse No. 7 (15A) RWBEC
box to the flasher unit, the flasher unit relay contacts repeatedly close and open, which results in the
RH and LH turn-signal lamps, turn-signal indicator lamp, and hazard warning indicator lamps flashing
on and off at the same time.
REMARK
The number of times the lamps flash on and off does not change even when one bulb is out.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
1. Neither the turn-signal lamps nor hazard lamps operate.
Check hazard switch contacts (on power source end).
Check flasher unit.
2. All LH or RH turn-signal lamps do not operate.
(1) Hazard lamp is fully operational.
Check turn-signal switch.
3. Flashing cycle of turn signal lamps is shorter.
Check the lamp bulb.
4. Hazard lamp does not operate.
(1) Turn-signal lamps are operational.
Check hazard switch contacts (on hazard lamp end).
