Tree Planting & Plant Tour Activity Report

The Junior Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers at Xavier University conducted a tree planting and plant tour activity on July 31, 2010. Forty-three students participated in planting trees and learning about the water purification process at the Rio Verde Water Consortium. The objectives of strengthening friendships between members and exploring natural resources were achieved. Participants toured the water purification facilities and learned how water is cleaned before planting trees to help the environment.

I. PRE-IMPLEMENTATION STAGE

The highlight of the meetings while planning the project was mainly the source of
budget. It was then decided that every participant will give his/her own counterpart.
Another highlight of the meeting was determining the number of students who could join
the said event. Lastly, the ways and means of transportation was discussed.

II. IMPLEMENTATION STAGE

Upon arrival to the venue, a member of staff gave a brief lecture on the processes
involved in purifying water from a river to a potable one. Questions from the students were
also entertained and answered. The staffs then guided us to the main plants and control
rooms which allowed us to see a bigger picture of how water was purified. Subsequently, we
were guided to the tree planting venue just a few walk from the main office. Despite of the
very hot weather, the participants helped hand in hand in planting trees to aid in preserving
Mother Earth.

III. POST-IMPLEMENTATION STAGE

The project was a success considering that all objectives were met. In this project,
we were able to gain knowledge during the lecture and plant tour, and at the same time,
help in saving the mankind and the animal world by planting trees. Trees help water enter
the ground and recharge water tables which are essential for the Rio Verde Water
Consortium Incorporated. Moreover, the participants had fun in the said activity because of
the bond created between the participants.
