Experiment Four
So far, all the devices were connected to the main switch (ISP switch) in this step you add a
switch to each wiring closet in rooms, buildings, and buildings in different cities.
1. Select a multilayer switch (3560-24PS) and add it to each wiring closet except the
main closet.
2. Connect the switch to the main switch (straight-through cable)
3. Disconnect AP from the main switch and add it to the new closet switch
4. Make sure that the wireless client is still connected
2
There are several methods of connecting the smart devices including wired connection,
wireless connection using existing AP, and wireless connection using IoT enabled Home
gateway.
Wired connection:
In this method, AC is connected to the closet switch using a straight-through cable.
However, by default there is no ethernet interface:
1. Open the AC config window and click on the advanced button in the left down
corner. Select I/O config from the top menu. For Network Adaptor 2 window, select
PT-IoT-NM-1CE from the drop-down menu.
2. Now connect a cable between AC and Closet Switch and make sure IP Configuration
in Config menu is set as DHCP
3
3. For network management purposes add a server in the main closet to control all IoT
devices.
4. Use a static address for the server. First, connect the server to the main switch then
record its DHCP IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server. Use
these details to configure the server’s static address.
5. Management devices are required to have a static address for consistency.
4
6. In the server configuration window select Services from the top menu and make sure
the IoT service is ON.
7. Open Desktop from the top menu scroll down to “IoT monitor Service” and open it
8. Create a new account using the server’s assigned static IP address in the previous
step. Username= admin, Password = admin
5
9. Open AC configuration window and under config settings> type in the details of
the management server/IoT Server:
a. Server Address: (for example=10.10.10.16, username: admin, password:
admin) and click connect.
6
12. Try other Smart Phones connected to the wireless network. Open the phone
configuration window IoT Mobile service and log in.
Any IoT enabled mobile devices in the network can perform the power management for the
AC.
13. Add more ACs to other rooms, buildings, and new City Building/s
For security purposes, it is recommended to connect the IoT devices to different WLAN and
new IP addressing Schema, however, in this lab we use the same WLAN and IP range.
1. Open AC configuration window clock on the wireless interface under config tab.
2. Type in the network SSID, and make sure the IP configuration is set as DHCP.
7
3. Delete the wired link
4. Check the IoT Server connection under settings
5. Login to server IoT monitor Service for AC remote management.
In this section, IoT devices will be connected to the network using Home Gateway specially
designed for IoT communication protocols.
1. Add Home Gateway in one of the wiring closets from Network Devices Wireless
Devices Home Gateway DLC100
2. Connect it to closet Switch
3. Open the configuration window. Configure static address for Internet Interface
under config tab (address details in the figure are just examples)
8
4. Click on the wireless interface copy the SSID and use it to connect AC to the Home
Gateway
5. Check management server in the main closet
To use the AC management more effectively add a Thermostat to monitor and set the
temperature values.
1. Add a thermostat to the wiring closet with AC from End Devices Home
Thermostat
2. Connect the thermostat wireless interface to the Home Gateway network (SSID)
3. Connect IoT server as a remote server.
4. Now the room temperature can be monitored remotely as well as threshold setup
and type of air-conditioning operation (cooling, heating, auto).
5. Any IoT enabled devices (e.g smartphone) can be used for remote controlling as long
as you have the credentials to the IoT server.
