Management of acute and chronic pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic and for
which alternative treatment are inadequate.

Morphine is an incredibly useful medication when used appropriately. Extreme caution must be
used with severe cases of respiratory depression and acute or severe bronchial asthma in an
unmonitored setting or in the absence of resuscitative equipment since morphine can further
decrease the respiratory drive. 14 days of MAOIs. Known or suspected GI obstruction, including
paralytic ileus.

Competitively blocks both β1 and β2 adrenergic receptors. When access to β-receptor sites is
blocked by Propranolol HCl, the chronotropic, inotropic, and vasodilator responses to beta-
adrenergic stimulation are decreased proportionately.
Conventional beta blockers exert their effects by reducing myocardial contractility, heart rate,
cardiac output, and by blockade of the β1 receptors of the renal juxtaglomerular complex,
which reduces renin secretion, thereby reducing the level of circulating Ang II, which will lower
total peripheral resistance (Eschengagen, 2018)
