Jenisa Carvalho Roll No - 07 Tybvoc: Seeing Sense: The Effectiveness For Education For Such Visually Impaired Students

This document discusses the design of a school for visually impaired students in India. It aims to provide an accessible and stimulating learning environment that supports students and helps them achieve their potential. The school's design objectives are to help students navigate independently, provide equal educational opportunities, create an earthquake-resistant structure, consider appropriate interior materials, improve quality of life, develop sensory skills, and provide lodging. To design for students with vision loss, it is important to understand how they navigate using limited sight as well as textures and sounds, and to incorporate universal design principles.

SEEING SENSE : THE EFFECTIVENESS FOR EDUCATION FOR

SUCH VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS

Tybvoc
INTRODUCTION
.India being the home of one-third of the world's blind population has about 12 million
visually impaired people. Four out of 1000 are found to Visually impaired in India. The
number of disabled is highest in the age group 10-19years with 46.2 lakhs.
."Disabled students” refer to a specific group of students who have physical, sensory or
intellectual impairment .Even though, disabled children undergo obvious educational and
societal marginalization, they account for one third of all out-of-school children. Responding
to the recent call to all societies to fulfill their duties in providing disabled children with an
environment which minimizes the feeling of their impairment and helps them to achieve
their full potential.
.The objective of the project was to design a school for students with special educational
needs according to the design criteria. There are not sufficient amount of places for these
kind of people. Partially sighted students meet the challenge of gaining
The design of this projects is to provide an innovative, accessible, attractive and stimulating
learning environment which supports and motivates children to achieve their potential and
capabilities. Furthermore, the society will be able to reap benefits from these students’
abilities and talents.
AIM
The proposal is to design a structure that guides all the visually
impaired students within the campus at the same time
contributing to the other senses for their movement within the
campus.

OBJECTIVES
1 – To design an infrastructure that helps them navigate effortlessly
making them independent
2 - Provide the same opportunities and educational experiences for
blind children as those provided for sighted children
3 – To create an earthquake and floor resistant structure
4 – To understand the different materials for the interior
5 -To create an environment which helps them to cater their needs
6 – To create an environment to improve the quality of life of blind
7 – To create an environment that improves the perception of space
that develops their sensory skills
8 – To provide free lodging for the visually impaired students
What to study
• In order to design spaces that people with vision loss can navigate, you must understand
how they navigate the world with limited vision.
• First, know that most people who are legally blind or deal with other vision conditions do
have some degree of sight. They do rely partially on their sight, so some visual cues can be
used.
• Second, people with vision loss use textures and audible signals to navigate the world, so
increasing the use of these elements can help make a space easier to
navigate. Accommodating their needs can make your space universally more inviting to all
potential visitors, regardless of their ability to see well.
• Consider the needs of those dealing with vision loss. Accessible design means making sure
that as many people as possible can enjoy and benefit from your work. If someone
is colour-blind, they should still be able to differentiate between distinct elements of your
design. If they’re visually impaired, the alt text and description/caption you attach to
images on your interactive microsite should help them understand the overall flow and
message of the page.
