1. Introduction:
The library management system is all about organizing, managing the library, and
library-oriented tasks. It also involves maintaining the database of entering new
books and the record of books that have been retrieved or issued, with their
respective dates.
2. PROJECT AIMS &OBJECTIVE:
The aim of this project is to develop a system that can handle & manage the activities involved
in a library in an efficient & reliable way. Less managing personnel & easy searching availability
& user profile managing are major goals in this project.
Objective:
Develop a system that can replace the manual library managing system
Develop a database which stores user details & book details.
Give reliable search facility for the users.
Administrator, librarian & users should have separate logins.
Create an easy to understand user friendly environment.
Attractive user interfaces to navigate through the system for the users.
Develop the system documentation with detailed UML specifications.
3. SCOPE:
The Library Management System Application keeps track of all the information about the books
in the library, their cost, their complete details and total number of books available in the
Library. The user will find it easy in this automated system rather than using the manual writing
system. The system contains a database where all the information will be stored safely. The
system is user-friendly and error free. This project will help to track all the book and library
information and to rate the maximum number of books, the visitors wished to read. The software
will be able to handle all the necessary information.
4. BACKGROUND OF PROJECT :
Library Management System is an application which refers to library systems which are
generally small or medium in size. It is used by librarian to manage the library using a
computerized system where he/she can record various transactions like issue of books, return
of books, addition of new books, addition of new students etc.
Books and student maintenance modules are also included in this system which would keep track
of the students using the library and also a detailed description about the books a library
contains. With this computerized system there will be no loss of book record or member record
which generally happens when a non computerized system is used.
In addition, report module is also included in Library Management System. If user’s position is
admin, the user is able to generate different kinds of reports like lists of students registered, list
of books, issue and return reports.
All these modules are able to help librarian to manage the library with more convenience and in
a more efficient way as compared to library systems which are not computerized.
5. OPERATION ENVIRONMENT:
6. PROBLEM IN BREIF:
Many library systems are operated manually by group of people. In such situations
many people involved in the process of managing the library such a way that to keep records
regarding the books & students (borrowers), check the books manually, keep records on issued
books etc. all these things have to be carried out manually & if the library is large in content
handling is also a problem. On the other hand keeping large amount of maintenance workers may
cost a lot & it will not be efficient for a library. Manual record keeping is also not a reliable
method as people tend to forget things.
On the borrower’s point of view, in manual system borrower can’t find a book exactly at
once as they are not ordered well. Sometimes user might be searching for a book that is not
available in the library in such situations people get annoyed or depressed. Therefore there
should be a reliable way to manage the library system.
7. PROPOSED SOLUTION:
To achieve the aims & objectives of this project, the main thing is to identify the main features
that involved in the system. In this scenario, there are three types of users; they are administrator,
librarian & borrowers. All these users should be able to login to the system with separate logins.
New users can be registered only under administrative concern. A database is there to store the
user details & book details. This information can be retrieved by the users as per their privilege.
Anyone can search the system using given specifications & the availability of the books are
updated by the librarian immediately. So there won’t be unavailability problem regarding the
searching criteria.
7.1Activities involved with Borrower:
1. Search for a book-by title, name and author.
2. View the user details.
3. Modify user details.
4. Reserve books.
7.2 Activities involved in Librarian:
1. Issue books
2. Return books
3. Add/delete books
4. Reserve books
7.3 Activities involved with Administrator:
1. Maintain book information-add/delete books
2. Maintain database
3. View user details
4. Maintain user details
All these activities should be carried out by the system and the interfaces should be user friendly
for the new users.
8 LITERATURE REVIEW:
A review of literature reveals that a computerized library management system will:
Help to improve the library services.
Help the Liberians with management information.
Help the librarian in reporting on the various operations of the library.
Increase the rate at which Tasks are completed accurately.
Obviate the need to hire additional staff with increased demand for services.
9 SUMMARY:
The Library management system needs to be computerized to reducehuman errors and to
increase the efficiency.
The proposed Library management system in this proposal will be a computerized management
system developed to maintain all the daily work of library. Library management systems are
designed to store all the information about books and members.
The main focus of this project is to lessen human effort and encourage efficient record keeping.
10 RECOMMENDATION:
Based on the results of the findings gathered, I would like to recommend the following:
The Library consider the proposed Library system for them to increase thenumber of their
student or user.
The proposed system be implemented by the library because it is more productive and more
capable of recording data in library.
Future researchers should continue to improve the proposed system.
Training must be conducted before the actual operation of the developed system.
