Installing ArcGIS 10.7.

1 with Trial License

A. Before you install ArcGIS for Desktop


1. Check our system requirements to make sure your computer has the hardware and software
required.

B. Activate your authorization code


1. Visit www.esri.com/educationedition to begin the process of activating and downloading your
ArcGIS for Desktop Student Trial software.

2. Click I have a “Esri account” and then click Enterprise login


3. In the URL section put “odu-gis” and the click continue
4. Click “Old Dominion University” and Log in using your ODU Enterprise account.
5. Authorization codes can be obtained from your instructor upon request, and follow the
format EVA123456789, for example.
6. Once you’ve been granted an authorization code, enter the code and click Activate ArcGIS.

a. If you need to download ArcGIS for Desktop, proceed to Section C.


b. If you received the ArcGIS for Desktop software from your instructor or license
administrator, or will be installing from a network server, proceed to step 4 of Section C.
7. Click the button for the ArcGIS for Desktop software version being activated. The current
version is 10.7.1
C. Download and install ArcGIS
1. If necessary, download the ArcGIS Uninstall Utility (located at the initial download on the Esri
Page) and uninstall previous versions of ArcGIS Desktop or Server. The software cannot be
installed on a computer that has a previous version of ArcGIS for Desktop or ArcGIS for Server
installed. It's OK if the computer has ArcGIS Explorer installed.
2. If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework (version 3.5 Service Pack 1 or higher).
a. If you are unsure if you have the .NetFramework installed, you can download a .net
Version detector from the following site - http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html.
3. Choose the software to download, which in this case will be ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) and
click Download. You can also download the Tutorial Data, if desired.

4. Navigate and double-click on the downloaded ArcGIS_Desktop_1071_169506.exe (depending


on the version you selected, the file name may be different) to extract the installation files.
5. The “Complete” installation is recommended.
6. Select the destination where you wish the installation files to be placed.

7. Once the application has finished its extraction, run the installer by making sure the box is
ticked when closing the application.
8. You will see the installation screen and the license screens. Click Next.

9. Read and accept the license, and you will see the following screen:
10. Select “Complete” and click Next.
*This is important to choose because it installs various geoprocessing tool extensions.

11. Many users will keep the default location for saving ArcGIS, however; if you would like to
install the program in a different location, change it here. If not, keep the location default.
12. The Python destination window opens next. Again, most users will choose the default. Click
Next.

13. Click Install on the next page and the installation will start. Be patient as this can take up to
30 minutes.
14. If the installation was successful, you will see a window that tells you: ArcGIS 10.7.1 for
Desktop has been successfully installed.

15. After the files are installed, the Authorization Wizard will open and prompt you to choose a
product to authorize; select “ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use” and click OK.
16. A new ArcGIS Administrator window will appear. Navigate to the Desktop folder on the left,
click the button “Authorize Now” for single use features.

17. The Authorization Wizard will present 3 options to choose from, select “I have installed my
software and need to authorize it” and click Next.
18. Select “Authorize with Esri using the Internet”

19. The next two screens will ask you to fill out personal information, do so accordingly. Click
Next.
20. On the next screen, enter the authorization code you received earlier.

Copy and Paste may not work, and you may have to type your code to click to the next screen.
21. Leave the default “I do not want to authorize any extensions at this time”. They will be
authorized automatically. Click Next.

22. The next screen for evaluating software extensions is not relevant, click Next to begin
Authorization. Once Authorization is complete, click Finish.
