Enrichment Activity 4: From the words/phrases listed above on the graphic
organizers, explain briefly the following mechanism of change. You can explain

through words, symbols or drawing.

Mechanism of Evolution

1. Natural selection Natural selection is a simple mechanism that


causes populations of living things to change over
time.
2. Mutation The mutation might be caused by alterations to the
gene or to the chromosome itself. As a result, a wide
mutation might be defined as a gene mutation in which
the allele of a gene changes. Segments of
chromosomes, complete chromosomes, or entire sets
of chromosomes can alter due to chromosomal
mutation.

3. Genetic Drift As a result, genetic drift is an evolutionary mechanism


that works in tandem with natural selection to modify
species traits over time.

4. Gene flow Gene flow is a crucial technique for transmitting genetic


variation from one group to another. By changing allele
frequencies, migrants alter the distribution of genetic
variation among populations.

5. Recombination Genetic recombination is the process through which


DNA is rearranged. Thus, recombination is the act of
mixing genetic material from two species to create a
new recombinant chromosome. The phenotypic
characteristics of the new recombinants have changed.
