Lilavatibai Podar High School (Isc) Class 10 Math Project On IPL Statistics

This document outlines the aims, objectives, and methodology for a statistics project on IPL (Indian Premier League) cricket data from 2016-2020. The project involves tabulating and graphically representing: 1) The average net run rate and total points for the top 5 IPL teams over the 5-year period to determine the best 2 teams. Bar graphs and pie charts will be used. 2) Batting and bowling statistics of top players over the years which will be shown in a histogram and line graph. 3) Choosing favorite players and stating IPL facts creatively. The project will be presented in a journal with tables, graphs and pictures.

LILAVATIBAI PODAR HIGH SCHOOL (ISC) Class 10

Math Project on IPL Statistics

A . AIMS AND OBJECTIVES .

 1. To acquire knowledge and develop an understanding of Statistics and  its graphical representation .

 2. To apply knowledge and understanding of statistics to the game of  cricket in the format of the Indian
Premier league ( T20 ).

 3. To acquire skills for tabulating and graphically representing data , as  instructed .

 4. To acquire skills for interpreting data , in order to draw conclusions,  and predict performances of
various teams .

B. METHODOLOGY part I ( Team statistics )

 1. Select 5 top IPL teams , and find the average (NRR) net run rate of each  of them from the year 2016,
2017 , 2018 , 2019 2020 ( avoid negative  values ,or, at least ensure a positive average) , and round off
average to 2 d.p

 2. Tabulate as illustrated ( only 2 teams shown )

2016  2017  2018  2019  2020  AVG.

MI  - 0.146  0.784  0.317  0.426  1.107  0.50

SRH  0.245  0.599  0.284  0.577  0.608  0.46

 3. Use the average of net run rate of 5 years , to plot a bar graph , with  the teams and the average
NRR . ( use an appropriate scale so that the  graphical representation is conspicuous ) .

Series 1

0 1 2 3 4 5 Series 1

The above is only an illustration without factual records , x and y axes label may be interchanged , but
must be marked accordingly .

 4. With the same 5 teams , tabulate the points scored from 2016 to  2020 . Use the values to find out
the average of points for the 5 years .
Tabulate as illustrated . ( only 2 teams shown )

2016  2017  2018  2019  2020  AVG.

MI  14  20  12  18  18  a

SRH  16  17  18  12  14  b

Total   X = a + b

Avg.

 5. use the average of points ( round off to nearest integer) , to construct  a PIE chart , with all
calculations listed as illustrated ( only 2 teams  illustrated , X is actually = a + b + c + d + e )

 MI ( 360 / X ) x a = _____ degrees

 SRH ( 360 /X ) x b = _____ degrees

 6. Use both of the above graphical representations to select the best 2  teams . ( the best 2 teams is
your prediction for IPL final 2021 )

B METHODOLOGY part II ( players statistics )

 1. List the batting figures for runs of top scorers from 2016 to 2020,  round of to the nearest 10 s .

2.Construct a Histogram to represent the batting figures .

Runs  400 - 450  450 - 500  500 - 550 - 600  600 - 650  650 -700
550

players  3  5  7  2  2  1

The above tabulation is only an illustration ( not factual records .)

 3. List the bowling figures of the wickets taken by 4 best bowlers .  Represent this information on a line
graph ( 2016 to 2020 )

Bowlers  B Kumar  J Bumrah  P Chawla

wickets  14  16  12

Chart Title

16

14

12

10

2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 bowler 1 bowler 2 bowler 3 bpwler 4

The line graph above and table is only an illustration ( not factual records ) .

C CREATIVE ZONE

 1. Make the following selection of your choice , state reasons for your  selection , backed by statistical
data and facts .

 a. 2 of your favourite batsmen .

 b. 2 of your favourite bowlers .

 c. 2 of your favourite all rounders .

 d. 2 of your favourite fielders .

 2. State 3 to 4 amazing facts about the IPL .

 3. Add pictures and colour to your project in order to make your work  impressive .

 INSTRUCTIONS

 1. The project consists of 3 parts A , B (I) (II) , C . All of these must be  written in an A4 size journal ( with
blank and lined sides ) . Pictures and  graphs must be on the blank side only .

 2. The project must contain 4 tables and 4 graphical representations .

 3. The journal is to be covered with a white paper cover , and labelled  clearly on the top right hand
corner ( name class division roll no .)
 4. If any part of the project found to be missing , then the project will be  considered as incomplete ,
this will result in loss of marks .
