Detailed Lesson Plan

The detailed lesson plan outlines a lesson on volcanic eruptions. The lesson will use visual aids, a first aid kit, and other materials. Students will learn about the positive and negative effects of volcanic eruptions on society. They will also learn about safety measures to take before, during, and after an eruption by performing role plays in small groups. The lesson aims to help students understand how volcanic eruptions shape the Earth's surface and to design emergency preparedness plans.

LESSON VOLCANIC ERUPTION

STANDARDS CONTENT The learners demonstrate understanding of:

 the effects of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions

PERFORMANCE The learners should:

 design an emergency and preparedness plan and kit

VALUE CREATIVITY

DC CORE VALUE: CO-RESPONSIBILITY

RELATED VALUE/S: APPRECIATION, SECURITY, TEAMWORK

ESSENTIALS ENDURING  Volcanic eruption has a beneficial and harmful effects in society
UNDERSTANDING
 It is important that people know about the precautionary and safety measure of volcanic
eruption

ESSENTIAL  What are the positive and negative effect of volcanic eruption in society?
QUESTIONS  Why and how do volcanic eruptions happen?

21st century skills  The learners will infer the advantages and disadvantages effects of volcanic eruption
or science  The learners should be able to practice the precautionary and safety measure before,
process skills during and after the volcanic eruption
OBJECTIVES/LCs KNOWLEDGE  describe the changes on the Earth’s surface as a result of earthquakes and volcanic
eruptions

ASSESSMENT TOOLS FORMATIVE  Multiple Choice

SUMMATIVE  Long Test

OTHERS  Matching Type: Five items

LEARNING Day 1 to Day 5

STRATEGIES
A. Preparatory Activity

1. Daily Routine

Here are some following
questions: - A volcanic eruption

society?
- Do you think this will cause
changes on earth’s surface?
How do you know?

C. Presentation

- (Show again the picture of

volcanic eruption)
- Now let’s discuss the
advantages and disadvantages
of volcanic eruption

Explanation:

There are advantages ang

disadvantages effects of volcanic eruption in
our society.
- First let us discus the
advantages:

- Decrease in the earth’s surface

temperature
- Create a spectacular scenery
- Produce very rich soils for
farming
- People became creative
- Provide information about the
Earth’s internal structures
- Income to an area is created by
tourists because the dramatic
scenery created by volcanic
eruptions attracts tourists.
- Creating islands
- Second are the disadvantage:

- Loss of lives
- Destruction of properties
- Death of organisms
- Deadly and devastating Lahars
are made when ash and mud
from an eruption mixes with
rain or melting snow making
fast moving mud flows.
- Destruction of vegetation

 (The students performed the

activity. Divide the class into
two, the first group will draw
one scenario of the advantages
of the volcanic eruption, and
the other group will draw the
disadvantage.)  (Each group will present its output)
- Presentation of the output  (There are good and bad effects of
- What have you learned from volcanic eruption)
the activity you performed?
- (Show the picture of
Aguirangan Island to the
pupils)

 (Answers vary)
- Do you have any idea about
this picture?
- This is an Aguirangan island. It
is an island because it is
surrounded by the water.
- How come Aguirangan was
formed?

Explanation:

Some islands like Aguirangan were formed

due to volcanic eruption because there are
volcanoes under water. The lava that comes
out from the crater flows up and cools,
gradually building on itself to form an island
that eventually break the surface of the
ocean. However, there are some land
formations were formed due to erosion,
earthquakes and even mand-made activities.  Yes teacher!!

there any question?

three after)

E. Generalization

disadvantages effects of volcanic
eruption

F. Evaluation
 (The class will answer the questions)
 Multiple Choice

1. What is the best effect that

volcanoes have?

a. The food that is planted from the

soil
b. Providing nutrients
c. Providing jobs
d. Looking nice

2. Fascinating looks (of the volcano)

a. Disadvantage
b. Advantage

3. Why is there good soil after a volcano

eruption?

a. Volcanic ash contains minerals

that are beneficial to plants which
will break down and get mixed
with soil
b. It comes from lava the lava dries
down on the soil
c. I don’t know
d. Soil near volcanoes are naturally
beneficial

4. Which of the statements listed

below is NOT a positive aspect of a
volcanic eruption?
a. Lava flows and lahars (mud flows)
clear areas of woodland, agriculture
and destroy settlements
b. The lava and ash deposited during a
volcanic eruption breaks down to
provide valuable nutrients for the soil
c. The dramatic scenery created by
volcanic eruptions attracts tourists

one.

so don’t rub if any comes into contact
with your skin or eyes.
