You are on page 1/ 3

Creating a website is something I am excited to do and hopefully, by following my

instructions, you will be too! First, I chose to use the Weebly platform to develop
my webpage. I chose Weebly because I have previous experience using Weebly
and have developed a personal Weebly site for my elementary school webpage.
I also chose to use Weebly because their software makes it really easy to drag
over items to edit into your website. For example, if I wanted to insert a text box
somewhere, I’d simply grab the “Text” icon with my cursor from the Individual
Elements sidebar, drag it to the appropriate position, and drop it to begin editing.

When creating my webpage, I first started with the theme. I chose a theme that I
felt would present my work in a professional manner, as well as be easily
accessible for those visiting. I deleted all the text boxes, spacers, images, and
buttons on the preset. This let me start with a blank slate to add materials in the
future. To delete items, hover over with your cursor and find the red X, usually
located on the top right corner. Simply push the red X and that item will
disappear.

After I chose my theme, I created 5 pages and titled them Home, Text
Instructional Materials, Graphic Instructional Materials, Multimedia Instructional
Materials, and Additional Resources. To create individual pages, find the Pages
tab located at the top of your window. Select the Pages tab and click on the plus
to create a new page. Once you have clicked the plus sign, name your page and
it will show up under the Pages section to the left. If you want to create multiple
pages, repeat these steps. Inside the Pages section to your left, drag the pages
in the order you please by holding the cursor over a page, clicking and holding,
and dragging to the desired spot.

After creating each individual page, I navigated back to the Home page and
placed four buttons. By placing these buttons, users will be able to seamlessly
navigate from page to page without having to use the top bar. To create a button,
move back to the Build tab at the top of your window. Once there, under
Individual Elements, find Button. Click and hold to drag button onto the Home
page and release when you have found the perfect spot. You can stack buttons
by dragging a new button over a previous button and letting go or place a button
next to another by dragging either to the right or left and releasing. This will stack
the buttons or order the buttons, if multiple are something you’re wanting to add.

After I created the buttons, I turned my attention to the heading of each page. I
wanted to make each header unique and choose a different image for each
pages’ header. I googled “website headers” and found some to my liking. To save
these images, I right clicked on the mouse and saved the image to my desktop.
Once back at my Weebly webpage, I hovered over the previous header, clicked,
and selected Replace Image. I found my image on my desktop and imported it
into position at the top of my page.

I inserted multiple text boxes and used them to title the open space under each
header on each individual page. To insert a text box, find the Text icon located
under the Individual Elements section. Click and hold with your cursor and drag
to desired position. To begin typing, click inside the newly formed text box and
begin. Inside the textbox, you can edit the text color and size. To edit the size of
the text, highlight with your cursor the selected words. After highlighting the
words, find the plus or minus sign on the editing toolbar. To make the font larger,
select the plus. To make the font smaller, select the minus. To change the color,
find the underlined capital A and select. A drop down with numerous colors will
show. To select a certain color, click the desired color. To bold and underline,
highlight the desired words and select the B to bold, or select the underlined U to
underline from the editing toolbar.

I added a clipart image to show a visual representation of each page’s title at the
top of each page. To do this, find Image inside the Individual Elements section.
With your cursor, click and hold Image and drag into header space. Release your
click and select your desired image. Once selected, the image will show up
inside the header.

Finally, I placed an external link that leads to the Utah State Core Standards on
the Additional Resources page. To do this, open a separate tab and google Utah
State Core Standards. Select the UEN link and this should take you to the UEN
homepage. Highlight and copy the website link in the URL located at the top of
your page. Navigate back to your Weebly webpage and paste the link in your
desired location. That’s not all. Highlight the link that you just pasted and find
Create Link in the editing toolbar. Select Create link and Website URL. Once
again, paste your link and the external link has been created.
