INTRODUCTION

• IMAGE FUSION
IMAGE FUSION IS THE PROCESS OF COMBINING RELEVANT INFORMATION FROM TWO OR MORE IMAGES INTO A
SINGLE IMAGE.

• PAN-SHARPENING
THIS PROCESS UTILIZES ONE HIGH-RESOLUTION PANCHROMATIC IMAGE AND ONE LOWER-RESOLUTION MULTIBAND
COLOR IMAGE.
IMAGE FUSION

THE IMAGE FUSION AREA IS MOSTLY FOCUSED ON IMPROVING FUSION QUALITY

AND REDUCING COLOR DISTORTION.
PAN SHARPENING

THE FUSION OF PANCHROMATIC AND SPECTRAL CHANNELS IS CALLED “PAN-

SHARPENING.” SIMPLE PAN-SHARPENING METHODS AIM AT PROVIDING A COLOR
IMAGE OF PLEASING AND SHARP APPEARANCE.
PAN-SHARPENING CAN BE REFERRED TO AS A SPECIAL CASE OF IMAGE FUSION
SPARSEFI
EXPLORES THE SPARSE REPRESENTATION OF MULTISPECTRAL IMAGE PATCHES IN A
DICTIONARY TRAINED ONLY FROM THE PANCHROMATIC IMAGE AT HAND.
THE SPARSEFI ALGORITHM ALSO DOES NOT ASSUME ANY SPECTRAL COMPOSITION
MODEL OF THE PANCHROMATIC IMAGE AND GIVES ROBUST PERFORMANCE
AGAINST SPECTRAL MODEL ERRORS.
