Lab Worksheet WAVES

This laboratory worksheet involves two experiments on waves - light and sound. Students are asked to list the materials used and procedures for both experiments. They then answer questions to test their understanding of key concepts about waves like wavelength, amplitude, frequency, and how they relate to properties such as pitch. Students are asked to define these terms, explain relationships between frequency and wavelength, and discuss what they have learned about waves from the classroom discussion and experiments. They must provide conclusions about the activity and can include documentation or references to support their work.

Laboratory Worksheet in Science

3rd Term
Laboratory Activity No. 1

Waves: Light and Sound

Name: ___________________________________ Gr.& Sec: ____________________

Date Executed: ________________ Date Submitted: _________________
Note: This is recorded as one of your performance tasks! Deadline is on May 04, 2021.
I. Introduction
A wave is travelling disturbance that transports energy not matter. Waves
can carry energy and information, such as conversations and television
broadcasts. Much of your perception of the physical world is dependent on
waves. You could not hear or see anything without sound waves and light
waves.
II. Materials Used - (In a bullet form, write down ALL the materials you used)

III. Procedure - (In a bullet form, write down ALL the procedures you did for both
experiments) Note: Use a separate bond paper (LONG) if the list of steps doesn’t fit in this page.
IV. Activity Questions: (Copy the questions and write your answers on TEST V. Do not
answer here on Test IV.)
1. What was experiment number 1 about? Discuss your answers. (4 pts)
2. How about experiment number 2? Discuss your answers. Here are guide questions:
a. What was the Newton’s disc experiment all about? (3 pts)
b. What is the principle/concept behind Newton’s disappearing disc? (3 pts)

3. Recall everything you have learned during the classroom discussion of waves, and
the laboratory experiment today. Discuss about waves based on what you have
understood. (Rx5)

4. Define the following terms in your own understanding in at least 2 sentences. (Rx2)
A. wavelength
B. amplitude
C. frequency
D. pitch
E. longitudinal
F. transverse
G. mechanical wave
H. electromagnetic wave

5. Based on the illustration below, explain the

relationship of frequency to pitch, as shown in
the picture on the right. (Rx5)

6. Explain why: High frequency = Short wavelength; Low Frequency = Long

wavelength (Rx5)

V. Discussion (Answer only)

• Follow the numbering. DO NOT WRITE IN ESSAY FORM. Use a separate sheet
for your answers. Name all your extra sheets (BOTTOM) and staple them
together with your intro page.
VI. Generalization/Conclusion
• For this section write your conclusion for the activity. You may include the things
you have learned. (5 points)
VII. Documentation (7 points)
• You can paste documentation or a link of a video on how you conducted the
activity.

VIII. References
• Experiment No. 2: Newton’s Disc Experiment
