1. Let 𝑎 = 𝑖 − 𝑗 and 𝑏 = 3𝑖 + 3𝑗. If 𝐷𝑎 𝑓(1, 2) = 6√2 and 𝐷𝑏 𝑓(1, 2) = −2√2, then find
𝑓𝑥 (1, 2) and 𝑓𝑦 (1, 2)
2. Let 𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦) = 𝑥 2 + 4𝑦 3. Find the extreme values of 𝑓 on the ellipse 𝑥 2 + 2𝑦 2 = 1.
3. Using the spherical coordinate evaluate
a) ∭𝐺 𝑥 2 𝑑𝑣, where 𝐺 is a solid region between the sphere 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 = 4 and𝑥 2 +
𝑦2 + 𝑧2 = 9

b) ∭𝐺 𝑑𝑣 , where 𝐺 is the solid region that lies between the sphere 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 +
𝑥 2+𝑦 2 +𝑧 2

𝑧 2 = 36 and the cone 𝑧 = √𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2

4. Find the surface area of
a) The part of the plane 3𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 𝑧 = 6 that lies in the first octant
b) The part of 𝑧 = 𝑥𝑦 that lies in the cylinder given by 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = 1
