To protect semiconductors in power converters, the instantaneous current value is limited to a level higher than the maximum value defined by the equation. As the grid voltage drops below minimum values, the current waveform changes from sinusoidal to trapezoidal to squared. In the case of an AC short circuit, the converter supplies 50-100% more current than its rated value. Considering the front-end converter used in the study, the maximum short circuit current would be 1.7 times the rated current of 144 amps, or 245 amps.
