Currency Controls In/Out:
Travellers entering or leaving the Community and carrying any sum equal to or exceeding ?10,000 (or its

a declaration to the customs authorities.

Travellers holding a valid ticket for a destination outside the EU (and certain areas within the EU, such as
the Canary Islands ) can buy goods free of duty and tax in so-called "tax-free shops" in airports and ports.
There are no limits as to the quantity or value of the goods that can be purchased duty and tax free.
Travellers should however bear in mind that the importation of these goods in the country of destination
will be subject to duty and tax allowances, similar to those applying to travellers that enter the EU from a
non Member State.

Other Denmark customs information

Note: Diabetic diets are catered for at many restaurants. See Food Drink in the Social Profile section.

Health care: Medical facilities in Denmark are excellent. The telephone number for emergencies is 112.
Local tourist offices will tell visitors where to contact a doctor or dentist. Copenhagen has an emergency
dental service outside office hours; fees are paid in cash.
Only medicine prescribed by Danish or other Scandinavian doctors can be dispensed at a chemist
(Apotek). Many medicines that can be bought over the counter in the UK can only be obtained with
prescriptions in Denmark.
There is a reciprocal health agreement with the UK. In addition to the free emergency treatment at
hospitals and casualty departments allowed to all foreign visitors, this allows UK citizens on presentation
of a UK passport (form E111 is not necessary if on a temporary visit to Denmark) free hospital treatment
if referred by a doctor, and free medical treatment given by a doctor registered with the Danish Public
Health Service. It may occasionally be necessary to pay at the time of treatment; if this is so, receipts
should be kept to facilitate refunds. The Agreement does not apply in the Faroe Islands. To obtain
refunds, UK citizens should apply (with receipts) to the Kommunens Social og Sundhedsforvaltning
before leaving Denmark. No refund is possible on amounts under DKr 500 (although there is a 50 per
cent refund for under 18s).

Immigration

Application for visa

* Application for Schengen visa

* Invitation forms

• The application cannot be submitted earlier than three months before the expected date of arrival
in Denmark. If you already hold a multiple-entry visa valid for more than six months, you can
apply earlier. Read more about duration.

• You must normally submit your application in your country of residence. You can submit it in
another country if you are there legally and there is a valid reason for not submitting the
application in your country of residence.

• You must submit your visa application in person. This requirement can be waived in certain
cases, such as if the diplomatic mission already know you from previous applications. You may
be called in for an interview after submitting your application.

What should your visa application include?

• A signed, completed application form

• A passport or other valid travel document. Your passport/travel document must be valid for at
least three months after your planned departure date. Moreover, your passport/travel document
must have been issued within the past ten years and must have at least two blank pages

• A passport photo measuring 35mm x 45mm. The distance from your chin to the top of your head
should measure between 30mm and 36mm. The photograph should bear a close resemblance to
your current appearance and you should be facing the camera directly.
• Payment of visa processing fee (typically €60)

• Relevant documentation, such as information about the reason for the trip, proof that you have
available accommodation, proof that you have sufficient means at your disposal to cover your
living expenses as well as your travel home. You should also include information that will allow
immigration authorities to determine whether you plan to leave the Schengen region when your
visa expires

• Proof that you have travel insurance. The policy must be valid throughout the Schengen region
for the entire visa period. Minimum coverage must be €30,000

• If your application is missing information, the diplomatic mission has the right to refuse it. Your
application will be rejected if:

• You do not submit a Schengen application form

• You do not submit a valid travel document

• You do not submit a passport photo

• You do not pay the processing fee

• If your application is missing other information, the diplomatic mission will accept the
application, but you and/or your host in Denmark will be asked to submit the required
information. The processing of your application will begin, but the processing time will reflect
the fact that it was incomplete at the time of submission.

Please note:

• The invitation forms contain a list of additional information and documentation to be submitted
(depending on the type of visit). If the invitation form is submitted together with all required
documentation, no further information will be necessary in most cases. Submitting a complete
application will reduce processing times.

Representation agreements

• In some countries, there is no Danish diplomatic mission to process visa applications. In such
countries, Denmark will generally have a representation agreement with the diplomatic mission of
another Schengen country to handle visa applications for Denmark.
Denmark - Pets Quarantine

• There are no quarantine requirements when bringing your pet to Denmark.

• Your pet must have an animal passport (PETS passport), and an identification chip or tattoo. At
least 3 weeks before travelling your animal should have the required vaccines, which should be
documented in the animal passport.

• Without the vaccine the passport can not be issued.

• Kittens and puppies should have their own passport but do not need the vaccine if they are
travelling with their mother.
