Unit - I
1. Explain the procedure of finite element analysis in detail with flow diagram?

2. The differential equation of a physical phenomenon is given by 2  500x 2  0 , 0 ≤ x ≤ 1. The

approximation function is T = T1 (x – x2) when T(0) = 0 and T(1) = 0. Calculate the value of the
parameter T1 using finite element analysis.

3. Solve the system of equations 6 x1  x2  x3  11.33 ,  x1  6 x2  x3  32 and

 x1  x2  6 x3  42 using Gaussian elimination method.

8. The nodal coordinates of the triangular element shown in figure 2. At the interior point P, the x
coordinate is 2.3 and N1 = 0.3. Determine N2, N3 and the y coordinate at point P.

Unit - V
9. A wall of cylindrical oven consists of 3 different layers of materials. The first layer composed
of 5cm thickness of insulated material with thermal conductivity is 0.08W/mK. The second layer
is made of 15cm thickness of asbestos with k =0.074 W/mK. The outer layer (third) consist of
10cm thick brick wall with k=0.72 W/mK. The inside wall temperature of oven is 250 oC. The
outer side of the oven of atmospheric air temperature is 30oC with convective heat transfer
coefficient h=40W/m2K. Determine the temperature distribution along the composite wall.
Consider Area of cross section of cylindrical oven is 1m2.

10. Derive the shape functions for four node rectangular linear elements in finite element
analysis?
