5. Course Description (Catalog Description):


Covers computational methods and error analysis; numerical solutions of non-linear equations;
direct and iterative methods for solving systems of linear algebraic equations; numerical
differentiation and integration; regression and interpolation; numerical solutions of ordinary and
partial differential equations; and initial and boundary value problems, eigenvalue problems and
applications of numerical methods in solving engineering problems using computers.

7. Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

1. Analyze the limitation and errors associated with the results of numerical methods
2. Calculate the values of roots of non-linear equations using bracketing and open methods.
3. Solve a set of linear or nonlinear algebraic equations using direct and iterative techniques.
4. Perform regression and interpolation.
5. Perform numerical differentiation and integration as well as Solve ordinary and partial
differential equations.
6. Demonstrate ability to develop computer codes as well as use built-in functions in Matlab
to solve numerical problems.

Methods include lectures, problems and project based learning methods (homework assignments
and/or programing projects) and class discussions.
