NAME: Shaina Mae F. Daquil YEAR&SECTION: BEED III-A

ENGAGE

Who has an area just like in picture one? Who

among you here have a plantation of the fruit in
picture 2? Imagine that you are the owner of the
area with these kinds of plants, how do you feel
if you stay there?

My grandmother has an area just

like in the picture. If I am the owner of the area with
these kind of plants, I will take care of the fruit
plantation because having a plantation is a
wonderful place to spend the day for everyone in the family. There are many events that both my
parents and siblings can enjoy together, such as wagon rides and apple picking. Apple picking is a
personal favorite of mine. For my siblings and I, and also other friends we met, we all agreed that it
is a great way to enjoy a nice, well weathered day together.

EDUPNPK ANSWER SHEET l LESSON 2 l METHODS OF PLANTING, PEST

CONTROL AND HARVESTING,
STORING AND MARKETING
Assuming again that you have a plantation. How do you feel if you discovered your favourite plant
having these pests? How are you going to deal with it?

I would feel bad if I discovered that my favourite plant has pests. So in order to deal with the
pests, there are natural, organic ways to deal with pest and disease problems in the garden. Many of
these ways have proved effective over hundreds and even thousands of years. I will keep the garden
clean of plant debris. Pest insects often hide or shelter in dropped or dead leaves. That's why I will
turn the soil in the fall or between plantings to expose pests to the elements. I will use pest barriers
such as floating row covers or sticky bands or copper strips to exclude pests from plants and planting
beds. A “collar” or ring of tar paper or cardboard pushed into the soil around a plant will deter
cutworms and slugs. Most insect pests can be controlled with relatively nontoxic sprays. Lastly, a
forceful spray of water from the garden hose is one of the easiest ways to dislodge pests. Insecticidal
soaps, horticultural oils, and insecticides made from plant extracts such as neem, pyrethrum, or
sabadilla are natural alternatives to synthetic pesticides.

EDUPNPK ANSWER SHEET l LESSON 2 l METHODS OF PLANTING, PEST

CONTROL AND HARVESTING,
STORING AND MARKETING

Visit an area where you can see plants (fruit trees, ornamental, flowering and others if available?

Look for any pests which are attacking the plants and have it documented. (3-5)

Research on the ways on how to control or eliminate those pests.

To control these bugs:

1. Wash plants with a strong spray of water.
2. Encourage native predators and parasites such as aphid midges, lacewings,
and lady beetles.
3. When feasible, cover plants with floating row covers.
4. Apply hot-pepper or garlic repellent sprays.
