Learning Activity Sheet in Mathematics 7

The document provides information on calculating measures of variability (range, average deviation, variance, and standard deviation) for grouped and ungrouped data. It includes an example of test score data and instructions for calculating the measures. The measures of variability describe how spread out the data is. Range is the difference between the highest and lowest values. Average deviation is the average distance of each value from the mean. Variance is the average squared deviation from the mean, while standard deviation is the square root of variance, representing the absolute variability of the data. The document demonstrates calculating these measures for both raw data and grouped data in a frequency distribution table.

How to Calculate the Measures of Variability of Grouped Data
Below is a complete frequency distribution table of a summative test of Math
7 students. Calculate measures of Variability. Fill up the table.

1. Calculate the Range: To find for the range, determine first the upper
class boundary and the lowest class boundary. Upper class
boundary can be found by adding 0.5 to the upper limit and lowest
class boundary can be found by subtracting 0.5 to the lower limit.
Subtract the lowest class boundary of the lowest class from the
upper class boundary of the highest class
a. What is the upper limit in the highest class, 46-50? _____ (50)
b. What is the lower limit in the lowest class, 11-15? _____ (11)

Knowledge on the measures of central tendency and variability helps an

individual to make decisions wisely. The ability to interpret data on measures
central tendency and variability enables us conclude results so we can
anticipate for necessary actions or decisions.
Use appropriate statistical measures in analyzing and interpreting statistical
data.

shoes sold is “7” for ladies, 150 and “11” for men. Which average is he
referring to – mean, median or mode? ______________ Why?

B. A survey was conducted at a Café which sells food and coffees. The
Barista suggested that they get a bigger machine to cope with high
demand. A bigger machine is very expensive to buy, and so Jorge, the
owner had a two- day survey done to find out how many Cappuccinos
were being made per hour in the Café.
