Guide is a person who is hired to escort a traveler or tourist and
point out objects of interest.

3. The roles and responsibilities of guide
 Ensuring the overall holiday satisfaction of all clients
 Ensuring that a tour proceeds as promoted
 Providing a range of information to clients
 Reconfirming/booking tour components as required
 Liaising with other travel and tourism industry personnel to ensure
the success of the tour
 Conducting arrival and departure transfers including accommodation
check in/out
 Staffing a hospitality/tour desk
 Conducting a range of tours including half/full day, evening,
site/event tours
 Selling optional tour components as required
 Managing basic touring problems (ex. Lost/theft of property, illness)
and emergency situations
 Completing reports and keep accurate record as required

A guide must be able to make relationships with different industry sectors in
order to increase his/her knowledge about tourism industry sectors as well
as the other relevant industry sectors. This knowledge will enable effective
guiding arrangements and other delivery of high quality customer service.

 Familiarizations tours
 Participation in guide association activities
 Formal and informal research of publications
 Internet Research.
GUIDING ACTIVITIES / DUTIES AND KNOWLEDGE INCLUDES :
No Guiding Activities To serve client, the guide needs current, accurate information about :
1 Transfer In/Out Transportation, accommodation used, number of participants, name of the group, participants
name list, aircraft schedule, time of departure/arrival of participants, check in/out hotel
procedure, check in airport / harbour procedures.

2 City Tours Places of interest, historical sites, guiding techniques, shopping centre, general information of the
city (history of the city, populations, climate, geography and other information), name of group,
number of participants, participant name list.

3 Inbound Tours Name of group, number of participants, participants name list, tourist’s destination, places of
interest, historical sites, shopping centre, transportation, hotel used, guiding techniques, special
events, local social customs, restaurants, Indonesian geography, other important information.

4 Outbound Tours Name of group, number of participants, participants name list, tourist’s destination, places of
interest, historical sites, shopping centre, transportation, hotel used, guiding techniques, special
events, local social customs, local restaurants, international geography, other important
information, check in/out hotel procedure, check in airport / procedures, travel documents
(passport, visa, fiscal), general information on destination country.

5 Overland Tours Name of group, number of participants, participants name list, tourist’s destination, places of
interest, historical sites, shopping centre, transportation, hotel used, guiding techniques, special
events, local social customs, restaurants, Indonesian geography, other important information.

6 Excursions Name of group, participant name of list, number of participants, places of interest,
