LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET 1
Drawing Circles with Different Radii Using A Compass
(Quarter 3, Week 4, Lesson 2)

BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR LEARNERS

Radius (Pl. Radii) : Any straight line that originates at the center of a circle and ends at the
perimeter.
Compass : An instrument used to draw circles or part of the circles called arc. It consists of
two movable arms hinged whose arms has a pointed end and the other arm holds
a pencil.

How to Make a Circle Using a Compass

Step 1 : Use a ruler to set the distance from the point of the compass to the
pencil’s lead at any given distance.
Step 2 : Place the point of the compass at the center of the circle
Step 3 : Draw the circle by turning the compass through 360 degrees

LEARNING COMPETENCY : Draw circles with different radii using a compass

(M5GE – IIIe – 24)

ACTIVITY 1
Direction: Using a compass, draw a circle with the following radius.

5 cm 2 inches

12 cm 2.5 cm
ACTIVITY 2
Direction: Draw circles of a given radius at the point as center. Color the circles.

3 cm

1.5 cm
2.5 cm

4.2 cm
4 cm

3.7 cm

4.8 cm

2.7 cm
4.5 cm
ACTIVITY 3
Direction: Draw a bear using circles. Measure the radius of each circle (in centimeters)

ACTIVITY 4
Direction: Draw the circle being described below. Follow the instructions carefully.

Instruction:
1. Use a compass to draw a circle of radius 3 cm.
2. Draw the diameter and use a ruler to measure its length.
3. Label the center as A and the diameter a BAC
4. Write an equation to represent the relationship between the radius , r, and
diameter, d.
