MODULE C: SPEAKING

Topic: Breakfast

SPEAKING
Read the text below & send your voice note to me on Whatsapp group. You can also record a video of you
reading the text if you want to.

There are main reasons why breakfast is the most important meal. Firstly, it replaces food
reserves that have been used up during the night. Do you know that there are many organs in your
body like the heart and lungs that do not stop working even though that you are sleeping? Sugar
stored in the liver is transformed into glucose in the night. During this time, your body gets energy
from the glucose. Thus, in the morning, your energy reserves are lower and need to be replaced.

The second reason is, breakfast provides you energy to work during the morning. This will
prevent you from feeling weak by midmorning. This feeling weakness is due to the low amount of
glucose in the blood. When your glucose level is low, you will feel tired and not be able to concentrate
on your lessons. A well-known nutritionist said… ”Going without breakfast is a bad habit.” By
midmorning, those who have not taken their breakfast are less efficient and are not able to
concentrate well.

A well-balanced breakfast is vital as it provides you the energy and nutrients to make you
healthier and keep you alert for the day ahead. Please don’t take junk food for breakfast. Junk food
tend to have artificial colourings and flavours. Besides, don’t get yourself to get over-hungry. Even
if you’re not hungry in the morning, you will start to feel hungry by mid-morning. Take breakfast
before you come to school. You’ll be surprised how much better you can perform at school.

EXERCISE
Based on the text above, answer the following questions.

Based on paragraph 1,
a) is it true that certain organs in your body do not stop working when you are sleeping?
___________________________________________________________________________________

b) what happens to the sugar stored in the liver when you are sleeping?
___________________________________________________________________________________

Based on paragraph 2,
a) why does our body get weak by midmorning when we do not take our breakfast?
___________________________________________________________________________________

b) why does the nutritionist say ”Going without breakfast is a bad habit.”?
___________________________________________________________________________________

Based on paragraph 3, what are the two advices that you can find?
a) ___________________________________________________________________________________
b) ___________________________________________________________________________________
