Next you have a small decrease, just follow the decrease for the size
cowl you are making:
6/9 months:

across. (28 sts)

Hood:

Row 1: chain 1, turn, * sc in the front loop, sc in the back loop,
repeat from * all across.
Repeat row 1 until the hood piece measures (you will want to
measure starting at the double crochet row):
Now you want to fold the hood in half and stitch the top together. I
like to slip stitch it together. Break yarn and weave in the ends.
Edging: with the crochet hook and contrast color yarn (cream
pictured). Start in one of the bottom corners and work a half double
crochet around the entire edge of the cape. You will want to work
two hdc in the dc row and three hdc in each corner. Slip stitch into
the first hdc. Break yarn and weave in the ends.

Toddler/Child:
With the crochet hook, chain 16. Work a single crochet in the
second chain from the hook, sc 5, hdc 3, dc 2, dc 2 in the next chain,
dc 4 in the bottom chain. Now you will be working back up the ear.
Working up the other side, dc 2 in the first chain, dc 2, hdc 3, sc 5,
slip stitch into the first sc. Change to the contrast color (cream
pictured). Working a single crochet around the entire edge. Single
crochet 14, work 2 sc in the next 2 dc (a total of 4 sc in the 2
stitches), sc 14, slip stitch into the first sc. Break yarn with a long
enough tail to attach to the hood, weave in all the ends. Make
second ear.
When placing your ears you can put them anywhere you like, of
course. I like to use a tapestry needle to attach the ears.
6/9 months-12/18 months: I place mine approx. 1.5 inches from the
front of the hood and 2.5 inches apart.

Work a hdc in the second chain from the hook, hdc in each chain all
across. Break yarn, weave in the ends. Now weave the tie through
the row of double crochets. Add a 3 inch pom (for the cottontail),
make sure to center along the bottom back.
