TRINITY ISE tt Preparation for Reading into Writing - Task 3 The Report ‘When writing a report, its important to remember the following points: * use formal language + use a main title * use a heading for each paragraph + you CAN use bullet points to summarise results, findings or other factual information The purpose of a report is (as the name suggests) to report on factual information (e.g. the resuits of apolitical surv the findings of a science experiment or annual statistics on road deaths) and then form some conclusions or make some recommendations based on the facts presented. Here isa suggested paragraph outline for reports: [Main Title] Introduction State the purpose of the report. [sub-heading] Report results/findings in paragraph 2. [sub-heading] Discuss what the resultsfindings mean in paragraph 3 and any related conclusions or recommendations. Conclusion ‘Summarise what the results/findings show and your conclusions/recommendations. Exercise | Look at the following Report question: Use the information from the four texts you read in Task 2 (pages 36-37) to write a short report (150-180 words) for your geography teacher on the traffic congestion problem in UK cites. |, Choose an appropriate introductory paragraph for your report, A, B or C. Explain your choice. A. Introduction This report's about the traffic congestion problems in Britain's cities. First, I'l look at what's happening now. ‘Then, I'l make some recommendations for improving things. B, Introduction “The purpose of this report is to examine the traffic congestion problem affecting UK cities and to make some recommendations for how this issue could be resolved. C.
