Teacher: 5E Lesson Plan Template

The 5E lesson plan template summarizes a 7th grade civics lesson on economic systems that will take place over one class period. Students will first engage by identifying countries and their economic systems using prior knowledge from a Venn diagram. They will then explore the topic in small groups and explain their understanding after a class discussion. For elaboration, students will create websites about 3 countries describing their populations, governments, and economic systems. Their work will be evaluated based on content, writing, images, and typography.

Engagement Based on the information in a Venn Diagram covered in a previous lesson, the
students will receive a list of countries and the students are required to describe
the economic system the country uses.

The students worked hard on the bellringer. All the students were on task and
Engagement engaged in the learning.
Assessment

Exploration The students will be placed into groups of three. Once the students are in their
groups, the students will compare their findings with their peers. The students
should be able to support their answers.

The transition into the groups of three took too much time. Next time when I move
Exploration the students into groups, I will have predetermined groups and will instruct the
Assessment groups where they are to congregate.

Explanation Once the students have concluded talking about which economic system
belongs to each country, I will review the Venn Diagram from the previous
lesson. I will begin reviewing the opening worksheet from earlier in the lesson
and the students will correct their worksheet. The students will be able to
understand the characteristics of each economic system. The students will
correctly identify all the countries on the worksheet.

Most of the students were able to correctly identify at least eighty percent of the
Explanation worksheet. I had to correct a few students and get them back on task.
