Major Project 1 Rough Draft

The document summarizes the steps involved in writing drafts. It states that writing requires going through multiple drafts as the first draft is often incomplete and contains mistakes due to distractions. The first draft is called the "child's draft" while the second draft is the "up draft" where corrections are made. Finally, the third or "dental draft" further refines the writing. The author reflects on how learning about the drafting process improved their own writing by helping them to not get discouraged from initial mistakes and instead focus on iterative editing.

Writing task 1

The writer demonstrates her ideas to us by reflecting the steps of writing drafts. The author

clearly states that writing is not an easy thing or a task that can be completed immediately.

The writer has to go through multiple steps while writing a perfect piece. The first draft can

be always concluded as the shitty one because when a writer sits down and starts to write,

there a re lot of distractions that come in his/her mind that take him/her away from the topic.

The first draft can be a piece of writing that needs editing because its necessary to replace or

edit some key words or sentences until it goes to the second draft that’s why the first draft is

also called as a child’s draft. So after correcting these mistakes from first draft, the writer

moves to the second draft is called the up draft and finally the third draft is called the dental

draft in which we can see that is the tooth loose or decayed and if it needs some of the

changes.

This piece of writing has taught me a lot of ways in which I can write much better. These

readings made several changes in my revision styles, as it taught me a lot of things how to

revise and edit my work. I used to write my first draft and I always started to demotivate

myself as I read that draft. The author of shitty drafts clearly states that first draft is a child’s

draft and it is common that one makes mistakes in his/her first draft. I revise my work in a

different way as compared to earlier times as now I put all my effort and ideas into my first

draft and keep changing till the dental draft. As for the major project 1, I used strategies like

editing and revising my work thoroughly and it helped me a lot. The first draft clearly

reflected my mistakes and made me accessible to make sufficient changes needed. I think I

should stop editing every sentence in my drafts, because every time I go back I feel this

specific sentence could be written in a much better way, this way of revising can be

considered a productive habit for me. I can also incorporate a habit of revision into my

writing even if there are not many drafts assigned as always looking at my draft and

recognizing the changes that need to be done and I try to make myself away from the

distraction that drive me away from the topic.
