The Mining Cycle

This presentation provides an overview of the mining cycle in 3 stages: 1) Prospecting and exploration to identify mineral deposits and ore bodies using 3D modeling software. 2) Development of the mine site after mineral reserves are identified. 3) Exploitation and extraction of ore, which follows a mine planning cycle, and eventual reclamation of the land. Environmental impacts of mining are also discussed, including sources of metal pollution and harmful effects of metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic which can be persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic in the environment.
