1. Identify the common activities and skills of a project manager.


A project manager is a system analyst who besides being system analyst should have a
diverse set of skills such as management, customer relationship, leadership, technical and
conflict management. The common activities of a project manager are initiating a project,
planning, executing, and closing down a project.

2. Briefly explain the process of managing an information systems project.

Project Management is an important aspect of the information systems development process and the
aim is to ensure that the system development meets customer expectations and everything is delivered
within budget and time constraints.

The four phases of information system project management include:

a. Initiating the project: The first phase of the project management which includes activities that
are performed to assess the size, scope, and the complexity of the project and to establish
procedures to support later project activities.

b. Planning the project: The second phase of the project management process that focuses on
defining clear, discrete activities and the work needed to complete each activity within a
single project.

c. Executing the project: The third phase of the project management process that everything
including the plans created in the previous phases (initiation and planning) are executed in
action.

d. Closing down the project: The final phase of the project management process that focuses on
bringing the project in hand to an end.

3. Briefly discuss project management software.


Project management software are used for project planning, scheduling, and resource
allocation. It can be used as an administration system that lets project managers (PMs),
stakeholders, and users to regulate expenses and manage budgeting, quality management,
and documentation. Despite the fact that project management software is utilized in a number
of ways, its primary goal is to make the planning and tracking of project components,
stakeholders, and resources easier.

4. Define project initiation. Identify five project initiation activities.


During project initiation, the project manager performs several activities to assess the
size, scope, and complexity of the project and to establish procedures to support
subsequent activities. Depending on the project, some initiation activities may be
unnecessary, and some may be very involved.
1. Establishing the project initiation team
2. Establishing a relationship with the customer.
3. Establishing the project initiation plan.
4. Establishing management procedures.
5. Establishing the project management environment and project workbook.

Project planning is the second phase of the project management process that focuses on defining clear,
discrete activities and the work needed to complete each activity within a single project.
