Unit 302 - Observation Report Example

Abdullah AL-Jaroud was observed conducting a workplace assessment of an employee at Saudi Drilling Academy. The assessment involved observing the learner preparing shackles and slings for testing. Abdullah used appropriate assessment methods including observation, questioning, and reviewing product evidence. Feedback identified the learner's strengths and areas for improvement. While the assessment was conducted well, Abdullah aims to address the language barrier some learners face by simplifying language used and introducing more Arabic instruction.

Observation Report
I met with Abdullah today as agreed in our assessment plan dated24/02/2020.
The location was Saudi Drilling Academy (SADA). This location was chosen as it is the
workplace of the learner. Due to strict safety policies, it was a controlled work
environment within the workplace. Before the observation I spoke with the trainee
assessor and the learner being assessed to explain and confirm the purpose of my
presence.

Abdullah was assessing Bader an employee of NEFT ENERGIES who works in Basic
Rigging & Lifting Unit as the……? Prior to the assessment starting, the trainee assessor
confirmed that they were no changes to the assessment plan. The standards being used
are relevant to a workplace environment as well as the two learners Abdullah is
assessing. The learner is being assessed on preparing shackles and slings for testing
as this is part of the job requirement. The location for the assessment was the Rigging &
Lifting Unit Workshop. Video evidence showing actions and procedures in the workplace
will be submitted. The subject chosen was agreed in order to make the learner feel at

ease and is relevant towards the job specification and environment.

The assessment methods used were: Observation, Questioning, videoing and Product
Evidence (The lesson plan).

The learner was asked a set of questions to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of
the subject. Each question was straightforward and easy to understand. The learner
showed adequate knowledge towards the subject, thanks to the questioning approach
adopted by Abdullah which helped make it reasonably easy for the learner to relax and
answer fluently.
At the end of the assessment, Abdullah delivered constructive feedback highlighting the
learner’s strengths and indicating areas to develop and improve upon. The learner
showed an understanding of the simple rules and procedures of testing slings and
shackles in the workplace but was not fully confident. Abdullah handled this deficiency
very well. He kept on encouraging and developing his learner to the required level.
Abdullah highlighted verbally that the learner must research and obtain more information
on the subject to achieve the standards required.

To confirm, I have seen the following Assessment Methods used by Abdullah on his
learner:
Questioning, Observation, Video and Product (Lesson Plans)
