WMS Infineon Project Tower ( Lightning Protection System Installation) - Rev-1
CONTENTS
1.1. To define the procedural steps to ensure that installation of Lightning system with
Aluminum tape, Copper tape, Copper cable and lightning arrestor for building and
structure.
2. RESPONSIBILITY
2.1. It is responsibility of the Project Manger, together with Site Supervisor, Site Engineer,
QA/QC and ESH personnel’s to establish successful implementation and maintenance
of these procedures.

3. SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work for the lightning protection system is listed in the following.
4. WORK STANDARDS
5.2. Hammer
6. MATERIALS USED
The materials used for the installation works shall be in compliance to those approved in
material schedule. The following are the materials used for the Earthing and Lightning
Protection System installation:
6.1. Copper cable
7. INSTALLATION METHOD
7.1. Grounding earth installation
The following step to be done for the grounding work.
7.1.1. Survey on site and marking as per Approved Drawings(NCSB 2019 ITT
ELE-CEC-SD-1A (38A)-LIGHTNING EARTH Model (1))
7.1.2. After marking using JCB machine for excavation work continues.
7.1.3. Start laying grounding 25mm copper tape/cable and branch out copper
tape/cable after excavation
7.1.4. Installation of G.I conduit at road crossing area for copper tape/cable .
7.1.5. Refer to the detail picture as below :-
7.1.6. Connect the main cable to Chamber using clamping with proper torque
value and main cable to main cable .
7.1.7. Inspection of cable joint with measuring of continuity.
7.1.8. After inspection pass, back filling activity to be done.
7.1.9. Compacting excavated area after back filling activity.

7.2. Pile Cap Lightning Installation
7.2.1. First of all, check the earthing requirement for the system.
7.2.2. Survey on site and allocated a specified location for the installation of
earthing pit in the future. This location shall be away from drain, access road or
future expansion area.
7.2.3. For electrical earthing system, normally a few numbers of earthing pit are
required in order to achieve a good earthing resistance value. (<1 ohm).
7.2.4. Study the area and reconfirm on the existence of other services installed
beneath the area. This is to avoid any damages to the existing property or
services.
7.2.5. After the survey and confirm the area is safe to drive in an earthing rod,
installed the rod by using hammer.
7.2.6. Connect the earth rod with a rod joint and continue with another
rod.joint detail A1-2 as below:-
7.2.7. After 2 numbers of earthing rod are installed, measure the earthing value
by using earth loop impedance meter. Testing procedure refer to
7.2.8. If the measured value is not within the requirements, continue with
installation with 3rd rod.
7.2.9. If the installation of 3rd rod cannot be done due to the difficulties of drive
in the rod at the area. Install another earth pit at the location of 2X the earth rod
lengths. For example, if the earth rods installed are 4m depth, another earth pit
will be 8m apart.
7.2.10. Continue the earth rod installation by repeating the steps above.
7.2.11. Connect the 2nd earth pit to the 1st with suitable size of cable or copper
tape. Measure the earthing resistance.
7.2.12. If the value is below 10ohms, it is satisfied for lightning protection
system, whereas for electrical & electronic system below 1 is required.
7.2.13. For the electronic, electrical & lightning protection. Separate earthing
system is required. It shall not be share or connected together.

7.3. Bonding to Other Services
7.3.1. Lightning conductor will be connected to the lightning earth pit directly
and any exposed metal part above the lightning protected zone need to be bond
to the lightning system.refer to the detail as below :-
8. TESTING
8.1. Continuity Test Procedures
8.1.1. Continuity test is carried out to ensure the entire Lightning system is linked up
together and grounded to the earth.
8.1.2. First of all, visual check on all the connection between the earthing cable and
the earthing rod is properly joint by using A-Clamp. Check the termination
between the earthing cable and the earth bar; ensure the cable lug is tightening
to the earthing bar with good contact resistance.
8.1.3. Set up an electronic multimeter to check the continuity among the earth
connection.
8.1.4. Connect one probe to the earthing rod and another one to the earth bar, press
the “Test” button, if the measurement values is as low as “0” ohms, means the
connection between the earthing rod and earth bar is perfectly link up.
8.1.5. Continuity test is also carried out for Lightning protection earthing, check the
continuity between the BI Connecter to the earthing rod and ensure good
connection between them.
