Week - 4 - Lesson 2-Q2-Worksheet - Math 10 V2A

This mathematics worksheet covers definitions and concepts related to arcs and central angles of a circle. It defines central angles, minor arcs, major arcs, and semicircles. Students are asked to measure angles and arcs based on diagrams, as well as solve word problems involving finding arc measures given angle measures and relationships between arcs. The purpose is to help students practice applying definitions of arcs, angles, and their relationships in circles.

ARCS AND CENTRAL ANGLES OF A CIRCLE

Concept Notes:

Definition 1: A central angle of a circle is an angle formed by two rays

whose vertex is the center of the circle.

In figure1, ∠ AOB is a central angle. Points A and B divide the circle into two arcs and each
central angle intercepts an arc.
Definition 2: The sum of the measures of the central angles of a circle with
no common interior points is 360 degrees.

In figure 2, m∠ ABC +m ∠ CBD+m∠ EBD +m∠ FBE +m ∠GBF + m∠ GBA=360.

Definition 3: The degree measure of a minor arc is equal to the central angle
that intercepts it.

In figure 4, ∠ JOY intercepts ^ JY . If m∠ JOY =80 ° , then m JY

JY and ∠ JOY =m ^ ^ =80 °

Definition 4: The degree measure of a major arc is equal to 360 minus the minor arc with
the same endpoints.
^ =80 °, then m ^
In figure 4, if m JY JMY =360 °− ^
JY . That is, ^
JMY =360 ° −80° =280 °.

Definition 5: The degree measure of a semi-circle is 180°
