Assignment 2 Report

This document contains an assignment with 3 circuit analysis questions given to electrical engineering technology students. It provides the circuit diagrams and steps to solve for various current and voltage values. In question 1, the student is asked to find the voltage Vo in a given circuit using KVL. In question 2, the student must use KVL to find the phasor currents I1 and I2. Question 3 provides another circuit and asks the student to use KVL to find the voltage Vo through several steps of substituting current values between the loops.

ASSIGNMENT 2

LECTURER : NOR RUL HASMA BINTI ABDULLAH

NUR ANISSA FARHAH BINTI MAZLAN TB19086 01
NUR IFFAHAZIMAH BINTI NORAJI TB19087 01
AMIR HAMZAH BIN ABDUL AZIZ TB19098 01
ABDUL MUIZZ SYAZA BIN ISMAIL TB19127 01
Question 1
Obtain Vo shown in the Figure 1.

Apply KVL in Loop 1:

I1 + (j6) I1 +(j2) I2 = 10 < 0˚
(1+ j6) I1 +(j2) I2 = 10 < 0˚ ---------- (1)

Apply KVL in Loop 2:

(j4) I2 + (j2) I1 + 4I2 –(j3) I2 = 0
(4+j1) I2 + (j2)I1 = 0
(4+𝑗1)
I1 = -[ ]I2 ---------------(2)
𝑗2
Substitute eq. 2 into eq. 1:
(1+ j6) (4+𝑗1)
[- +(j2)] I2 = 10 < 0˚
𝑗2
I2 = 0.7975<-175.426˚ A
Hence,
Vo = j3*I2
= (j3) (0.7975<-175.426˚)
= 2.3924<94.574˚ V
Question 2
Determine the phasor currents I1 and I2 in the circuit of figure 2.

Apply Kirchhoff ’s voltage law to loop 1:

-100<60° + 5I1 + [ j2I1 – j3(I1 – I2)] + [ j6(I1 – I2) – j3I1] = 0
I1 (5 + j2 – j3 + j6 – j3) + I2 (j3 – j6) = 100<60°
(5 + j2) I1 – (j3) I2 = 100<60° ------ (1)

Apply Kirchhoff ’s voltage law to loop 2:

-j4I2 + [ j6 (I2 – I1) + j3I1] = 0
( j3 – j6 )I1 + ( j6 – j4 )I2 = 0
( j2 )I2 = ( j3 )I1
I2 = 1.5I1

Substitute 1.5I1 for I2 in equation (1):

( 5 + j2 )I1 – ( j3 )(1.5I1) = 100<60°
( 5 + j2 )I1 – j4.5I1 = 100<60°

100<60˚
I1 = I2 = 1.5(I1)
5−𝑗2.5

100<60˚
= 5.59<−26.565˚ = 1.5(17.889<86.57˚)

= 17.889<86.57˚ A = 26.83<86.57˚ A
Question 3

Find the Vo?

a. KVL at loop 1
−46∠0 + 2𝐼1 + 𝑗8𝐼1 − 𝑗2𝐼2 + 5(𝐼1 − 𝐼2) = 0
(7 + 𝑗8)𝐼1 − (5 + 𝑗2)𝐼2 = 46∠0

b. KVL at loop 2
−𝑗2𝐼1 + 𝑗12𝐼2 + 10𝐼2 + 5(𝐼2 − 𝐼1) = 0
−(5 + 𝑗2)𝐼1 + (15 + 𝑗12)𝐼2 = 0
15 + 𝑗12
𝐼1 = 𝐼2
5 + 𝑗2
𝐼1 = (3.4138 + 𝑗1.0345)𝐼2

c. Substitute b to a

(7 + 𝑗8)(3.4138 + 𝑗1.0345)𝐼2 − (5 + 𝑗2)𝐼2 = 46∠0

(10.6206 + 𝑗34.5519)𝐼2 = 46∠0

46∠0
𝐼2 =
(10.6206 + 𝑗32.5519)

𝐼2 = 1.3434∠ − 71.9302 𝐴 @ 0.4167 − 𝑗1.2772 𝐴

d. Substitute c to b
𝐼1 = (3.4138 + 𝑗1.0345)(0.4167 − 1.2772)
𝐼1 = 4.7923 ∠ − 55.0719
𝐼1 = 2.7438 − 𝑗3.9291

e. By Ohm Law
𝑉𝑜 = 10𝐼2
𝑉𝑜 = 10(1.3434∠ − 71.9302)
𝑉𝑜 = 13.434∠ − 71.9302 𝑉 @ 4.1669 − 𝑗12.7714 𝑉
