1.

Prescriptivism is unhelpful sometimes because it falsely assume that there is an

existence of a uniform and unchanging standard and thereby fails to recognize the
naturalness of linguistic variation and change. Perhaps another worst thing about
prescriptivism is that it is frequently a device for demonstrating the superiority of the
pundit and his or her favorite class of people over everyone else. It feeds discrimination,
particularly classism that the prescriptivists are superior and educated because they
speak standard language (e.g. English language) and those who fail to recognize the
correct usage are uneducated and low – class.
Prescriptivism commonly leads into discrimination and it is unhelpful to instill to people’s
conviction that language is naturally changing and there is no pure language after all –
not even English.

2. In terms of complexity, I don’t see any reason that I would say that spoken grammar is
easier than that of written or vice versa because I believe that both of them have same
level of difficulty. Although there are notable significant differences between written and
spoken grammar but in terms of complexity, they are equal. In communication, in order
for us to communicate effectively, whether discourse or written, we need to have
knowledge of correct grammar usage because that would be our tool to be understood
and clearly deliver what we intend to convey to others. In addition, it will take a struggling
time for us to master the rules of grammar because we are not a native English
language speakers.

3. Language is a filter, enhancer, and framer of perception and thought. It does not limit our
ability to perceive the world or think about the word, but they focus our perception,
attention, and thought on specific aspects of the world. So, different languages focus the
attention of their speakers on different aspects of the environment – either physical or
cultural. Linguists say that aspects of language are either lexicalized or grammaticalized.
Lexicalizing means that you have words for concepts which work as shorthand for those
concept. Grammaticalized means being able to classify and use parts of speech (e.g.
nouns, verbs) whenever you build sentences in that language. As we communicate,
there are some ways that grammar tells us something about how we think – about
space, time, colors, and objects. Because grammar plays integral role on every human
languages, it is deemed important to note its significance in describing how we perceive
the world using language. After all, language is central to our experience of being
human, and the languages we profoundly shape the way we think, the ways we see the
world, and the way we live or lives.
