engines for transportation, stoves, harmful
solvents, gasoline, other man-made
products and burning

BE COLLECTED BY GRABAGE MEN

 Some thermoset plastics

 Non-biodegradable wastes whose form is damaged,

teared or rotten in some kind.

Pollutants that can be recycled

1. Non-biodegradable waste – is defined as a substance that cannot be decomposed or dissolved

naturally and acts as a source of pollution. Non-biodegradable waste examples include plastics,
metal, aluminum cans, and tires which can also be determined as recyclable materials. These
non-biodegradable wastes can always cause pollution if improper waste disposal has been
practiced. However, we can lessen the effects that they will be bringing through ways such as
recycling.

 PLASTIC WASTES of any kind can be turned into desirable and good-looking designs to be put
or can be used inside or outside of the house. For example, the plastic bottles being thrown in
sidewalks or fields can be used to create garden decorations, plant pots or vases. They can also
be used to build a small house or MRF (material recovery facility). One example of this can be
seen in Baguio National Highschool. We can also design a plastic bottle to make as a container
of any kind. It can be a ballpen container to organize stuff.

 PLASTICS FROM SNACKS OR BAGS that we used were usually thrown or burned by some
people and therefore affect and pollute the air, water and soil. To prevent the increase of pollution
in our community, these plastics can be made as bags. They might not be turned out as
fashionable bags, however, they can be used as a market bag. Here, we have created a recycled
bag that benefits us and decreased the usage of plastic bags and therefore lessen pollution and
pollutants. Other people also used plastics to create chairs.

 TIRES
A non-biodegradable waste which can be recycled and made as vegetable or plant garden pots.
They could also be made as
swings in playgrounds or recycled chairs. Others also make it as a recycled speaker or elegant
terrace chairs and tables.

 ALUMINUM CANS

Aluminum cans are very recyclable and can be used in our

homes. Same with plastics and tires, aluminum cans can also
be used as house designs, garden designs or pots for our

plants. If students like me wanted a pleasing study table with organized stuffs like assorted
ballpen, paintbrushes, markers or color container, aluminum cans can be redesigned and create
cute and beautiful containers.

 METALS
Recycling metals can be turned into
beautiful crafts and home designs. Metals
that are used to create crafts may be
utilized by the community for exhibitions
and even sell to willing buyers if craft was
made successfully and aesthetically.
Here, we can gain money and experience
and at the same time lessen the pollutants
that contribute to pollution.

2. STYROFOAM
Wastes like Styrofoam are like plastics whose life lasts for about a thousand of years and also
affect the environment when disposed improperly after usage. In the neighborhood, Styrofoam
was even burned which is not also good as it produces gases that harm the air and the health of
people. This is actually the same with the incinerated plastics and open burning. However, we
could lessen and prevent such cases if we are going to recycle this kind of waste instead of
throwing them anywhere or burning them. Styrofoam can be used as pots for our plants at home
or in public areas in our community. We could redesign it to become aesthetically pleasing in the
eye. We could also make wall organizers or container organizers out of Styrofoam. Crafts or
house decors can also be made through the use of the artistic mind of ours.

Recycling wastes creates big changes in our society so we should practice this kind of behavior.
Humans should be responsible with the creation they have made. As we are the ones who
created these wastes, we should dispose of them properly or recycle them. Practicing it would
eventually lead to a healthier life as we are helping our nature to be clean and lessen pollutants
that may harm the environment and the people living in it.

Communities should not only learn how to recycle such wastes. People should also instill within
them the proper ways of disposing wastes because improper disposals are one of the big factors
why pollution and destruction of land, air and water is increasing. If people continue to throw
wastes in places they like, the increase in pollution and chances of harming us will be higher than
expected.

Here are some of the ways that the neighborhood could do regarding wastes:
1. Segregation of wastes into biodegradable and non-biodegradable.
2. Throwing of wastes in proper trash cans.
3. Reusing wastes if it can be reused.
4. Recycling those wastes that are able to recycle.
5. Avoidance of incineration of wastes.
6. Responsibility. We should obligate ourselves in handling waste.
7. Volunteer in cleaning areas. Pick wastes if seen and throw in trash cans.
8. When you see people throwing trash, tell them not to practice that kind of behavior.

Here are some of the ways that the officials of the community or barangays could do
regarding wastes:

1. Barangay captains can initiate projects such as clean and green projects which may aim to
clean sidewalks and fields.
2. Barangay officials may also strengthen the law about prohibition of incinerating wastes
because I have observed that many are still doing this kind of practice even though it is
unallowed to do so and officials at the same time do not warn people.
3. Officials in the community may also include in their project the putting of trash cans in public
areas and sidewalks.
4. Officials may also hold seminars regarding the effects of these pollutants because many are
unaware and lack knowledge about these effects. The seminar may also include solutions
and alternatives in waste disposals.
5. Lastly, officials could also create barangay competitions where the theme includes recycling
wastes so people would be encouraged to create recycled materials and therefore lessen
pollutants.

Here are some of the ways that the City District could do regarding wastes:

1. Strong implementation of laws regarding waste management and disposal.

2. Holding of meetings and seminars with the officials of different barangays to accurately build
plans about waste management.
3. The city district may also build an exhibition place where all creations displayed are recycled
products or crafts. They may buy these to people who created so others would be urged to
create. This would lessen pollutants and at the same time, may also be used to increase
tourism in our city as it will surely amaze the viewers for the creativity that has been done.
